Good morning Kevin. I haven't had too much luck with my Aherns/Aherne. They were sponsors for all but two of my grandfathers brothers. This is what I have:
Michael sponsors ?
Denis " Michael Lacy & Mrs. Lacy could be Ahern
John " John Behan & Catherine Behan, could be Ahern.
Catherine Michael Ahern & Bridget Ahern
Daniel Daniel Ahern & Hanora Ahern
Christopher Martin Ahern & Kate Ahern
Owen Michael Ahern & Elizabeth Holland
Martin ?
I believe that that the Aherns might have been living on the Old Bog Road in Tipperary just outside of Castleconnel.
I think the records for the Aherns might be in Newport &
there might be some in the Church in Killoscully, too. I never contacted them. The cemetery in Castleconnell has Aherns and Ryans buried there. Check Pat Connors Limerick site & Janet Crawfords Tipperary site. Let me know how you make out.
Hi Bob,

My great grandmother was a Catherine Aherne who according to Ireland Civil Reg of Marriages marrried my great grandfather Timothy Shiels on 12/01/1907 - Aged: 26 at this time.

According my searches Catherine's father may have been a Dennis and held mother a J Byrnes - but I may be wrong!

I am struggling to locate any firm records for Catherine Aheane's family and would welcome if you could check your family tree / records to seek a possible connection.

It would be great if they were connected.

Regards

Kevin Shiels

May be of help..The Freemantle /Perth connection came through the marraige of Harold Ahearn B1894(son of Jerome B1867,son of Jeremiah, (son of John and Margaret?)to Mary Isabel Boland Sandeman b1899 Perth) in 1922 Sydney. The Sandemans were from Perth and the Ahearns from Bathurst.Several different spellings on BDM Australia for Ahearn including some errors(Anearn and Shearn). My father Jack Ahearn B1924 remembers going to WA as a child to pick up Mary Sandeman after John died and returning to NSW.Nearly all the Ahearn/Ahern line is Bathurst.

Catherine AHERNE, Ireland --> NSW, Bathurst m. EWER

I seem tied to Bathurst and area through every lineage of my family.

Edward EWER (1827 Parramatta -1884 Bathurst) married Catherine 'Kate' AHERN(E) on 25 Mar 1851 in Carcoar and had 8 or 9 children in Bathurst (including my ancestor Jeremiah Joseph EWER).

I know little of Edward, but the NSW archives shows that in Dec 1863 he was a confectioner in Bathurst, and filed for insolvency. He died in 1884 in Bathurst. Catherine died in 1910 in Blayney NSW.

Catherine arrived in 1838 on the 'Duchess of Northumberland' with her parents John AHERNE and Margaret OBRIEN, and siblings John, Ann and Ellen. In 1851 they purchased a property called 'Cruita' near Bathurst. I know little else, except there is a book called "Freemantle via Bathurst" that has some reference to the family. John died in 1878 in Cruita, Watton, Bathurst and Margaret died in 1891 in 'Freemantle via Bathurst' (what does this mean?).

Does anyone know anything else about the AHERN/AHERNE/AHEARN family, including Edward EWER, or where I might procure a copy of the aforementioned book?

I look forward to hearing from you.

cheers and thanks (again)!
matt

Lt John Ahern WW2

My ancestors come from Bozeat in Northamptonshire in England. You possibly know already but I thought i would post this extract from a description of Bozeat.
"Although not a 'son' of Bozeat, one young airman of the second world war is remembered each year on Remembrance Sunday with great gratitude by the village. When his plane developed engine trouble, he instructed his crew to bail out. Then Lt John Ahern, aged 22 years, of the United States Air Force, crashed his plane beyond the village, in the fields of Red Gables farm. His life was lost, but lives and property in Bozeat were saved that day."
Regards,
June Hawkesworth
