My name is Tim Ahern and I am researching my ancestry. Other researchers in my family have done alot of fact gathering in the past to get me where I am today. I thought you might be able to help, because our ancestors appear to have some things in common. What I know now is I have an ancestor named Owen Ahern, who was a groundskeeper on the estate of William Smith O'Brien at Cahermoyle in Ardagh of Co. Limmerick. He was literate and could have been involved in the newspapers or in the revolt in Tipperary in 1848. The reason we think he might be involved is he left Ireland in a hurry without his family, around 1850-51 and emigrated to New York where he obtained a pretty good job as a gardner on an estate in Long Island. I am planning a trip to Salt Lake City on July 12, 2001 and would appreciate any advice you might have on researching Owen's possible involvement with the Young Irelanders.
Blessings,
Tim Ahern
