Hi Team,

It's been wonderful reading all your messages to each other and to especially listen to all you 'Ah Sue's' out there working together to piece all our history together. It's great!

Unfortunately I can't offer any help with finding where we all originated from, however, I can say that my small family of Ah Sue's are carrying on the family name now with my brother who's had a little boy who turns one in a few weeks.

My father's name is Albert (Alapati) Ah Sue and he's married to my mother Remona (Mona) nee Lee. They live in Manukau City in Auckland. There are three in our family. My sister Fuatino, myself, Lenora and of course my brother Patrick (Wolfu). We're all still living in Auckland with our families.

We'd love to hear from any of our family in NZ and around the world. We don't come across many Ah Sue's in Auckland.

It was great to see Troy Gentles on the message board. I think the last time I saw you Troy was when I was a very little girl of 6 or 7 when mum had a dance group with included you and my aunts.

Anyway, thought I'd say hello to you all and look forward to hearing of your progress on our family history. I will talk to dad to see if he can help, but it looks to me as if you've all got a good handle on things.

NB: Dads father (who was obviously an Ah Sue) died when he and his brothers and sisters were very young, so we don't know too much about our history which is why this is so important.

Love Lenora xxx

Hi Patrick, When I read the heading for this email I thought you were my brother Patrick, but when I read more I realised that my brother had spelt my father's and grand father's names wrong... then I clicked! Anyway, wonderful to hear from you... I'm not very good with the Ah Sue 'clan' but know that my dad's father's name was Herbert and he was married to Lilia. Their children were Otto, Herbert, Kelle, Alapati (Albert - my dad), Lucy who passed away recently, Anna, Fuatino, Kolopa, Tina, Ester, Roberta... I'm sure I've missed a couple but you will know from just these few names if this is the right family you need. I do believe my father had an Aunty Nellie who passed away a very long time ago and apparently she was very good a names, dates and specifics on who's who.

I am currently living in Pakuranga with my husband and young daughter who is 2 and a half. The Ah Sue's have been keeping in touch better lately since the passing of their sister Lucy less than a month ago. I guess they realise that time is too short.

Drop me a line if you want to catch up. Would love to see more family and especially Ah Sue's as there are few and far between now.

Love Lenora Ah Sue-Prosser xxx

Hi Patrick,

Lovely to hear from you and so promptly. Yes... my uncle Otto did run the movie theatre called the Tivoli, however, I'm not too sure if he's still doing that? When we were in Samoa Christmas of '88, he was doing that,a but when my family and I went there Jan 2003, I think he'd pretty much retired. Not sure though.

Also, my aunty Kolopa (Ellen) is married to a kiwi named David and they had x3 boys... Thomas, Christopher and William. Not sure if this is the right Kolopa that you're thinking about.

Wow... four boys and one set of them twins... that'll be a handful for your wife!

If you are ever in Botany shopping... I'm the Team Leader at the Life Pharmacy out there so please, pop in and say hello... I'm the only Samoan there so not hard to spot. Just ask for me. Better still... come after the Christmas and New Year madness... I'm really swamped at the moment and not my favourite time of the retail year.

Anyway, you have a good weekend too and say hello to your family. Have a great Christmas too if I don't get a chance to log on from now till then.

Love Lenora Ah Sue

PS: I've posted a few recent photos so you can see if there is any family resemblence. My daughter Chiara is in some. There's also a photo of her and Kalani which is my brother Patrick's new son born only a few weeks ago. I've also got one of my mum and dad (Remona & Albert) with the grand kids - Caitlyn (my sister Fuatino's daughter), Chiara (my little one), Liam (my sister Fuatino's son born in January this year) and Kian (my brother Patrick's eldest boy who's not quite 1 and a half yet).

I hope you enjoy them! Will talk soon.

Hi Donna
did we talk on the phone ?
Yes, I cannot be sure but I think Paugata was an Anae and she was blind. She was adopted by John Dixon and Valaile Anae (may be related). She inherited a large sum of money as John Dixon at the time was one of the wealthiest men in Samoa from cultivation (cotton I believe). Plus slaves from the surrounding Pacific - poor buggers.

I have been to where she is buried in Falesiu. There is a rich history here and a great South Pacific story because it involves a lot about the Samoan way and European influences and the CLASS!! system.

I have researched much on both Paugata line - Ellens Mother and Ulu Ulugia (I think this is correct - born in the Vaiusu village) - james mother.

Great to see so many Ah Sue family members split between these Samoan ladies.

Best Regards

George Churchward
