I am looking for ancestors of my great-great-grandfather, Fun-Kum-Liu Ah-Nee. I know absolutely nothing about him except that he married Mele Malamalama Pa on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. He was my grandmother's grandfather (my grandmother has passed away), and she probably knew him although I'm not sure how well. I seem to recall her saying though that all of the Ah-Nee's in Hawaii are related somehow.
Any help you may be able to offer is greatly appreciated. Since my searches for this surname have come up with very limited results, I am bracing for a long wait in response to this query. So, let me also say that my email address will always be the same unless I post a change here.

Aloha Jolene, I see that you sent this message out in 2004. It was a long wait for any response. Well, I am the granddaughter of John Y.S. Ah Nee on the island of Oahu. Yes, in my research I came across the Ah Nee on Kauai. However, I didn't pursue it because I could not find a connection. My grandfather's father was Leong Nee Fook, the name changed to Ah Nee because, at the time, the people found it difficult to pronounce it. In researching the Chinese name the surname is the first name such as " Leong" for my grandfather. I checked the LDS Church Family History Center. There are also the immigration records online. I hope you still checking this site for imformation. Happy Researching!!!

Aloha Napua,
Yes, I'm still being notified, so mahalo nui for responding! Where did Leong Nee Fook settle when he first arrived in Hawaii? There are some Ah-Nee's in our clan who moved from Kauai to Oahu.
Thanks for writing ~ I'll try to contact you through email as well.

Hi Jolene, You should talk to my uncle Clarence AhNee, he knows plenty and sounds like my grandfather who I know is from Kaui origins...My grandmother though is a Kahakai. From what I've been told my the last name Ah Nee was actually our (IDK...Great great grandfather or something like dat.) it was his first name and I forget the real last name, but immigration or something made it his last name. But, My uncle Clarence Ah Nee from Hauula is on facebook all the time and tell you more...My father, his brother passed away when I was 16 & I was raised by my mom 1/2 my childhood on the main land so sorry my feedback isn't to informative but I know you talk to him and he'll fill you in. Kawehi, mahalo nui for your help! Yes, the Ahnee surname didn't start off as a surname. Our Chinese family still call each other Ah-something, pet names. My mom called her grandmother Ah Po (grandma) and her grandfather Ah Kung (grandpa). A younger cousin is Ah Mui. This being the case, not all people named Ahnee are related. I don't think anybody in our living family ever knew what the real, full name of our Ahnee ancestor was. What you've said helps though, and I'll try to find your uncle on Facebook. Thanks so much!
