He was my paternal grandfather who came to the U.S. from Sheffield,England. The original spelling of our name was EGER, but Morris, who was born in Germany Anglicised it. He married Emily Jane Brodie. Her family originated in Russia, but there were also Brodie's in Scotland. My late father, Nathan Agar was one of seven children. Morris owned a paint wallpaper store on Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn,NY. Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? Thanks for anything you can provide on this. Ruth

Hello Ruth,
I just found your message, and some communication with my cousin Lowell Agar Berg.
I am Sallie Agar Klaw's daughter. My grandfather Sam, was your Dad's cousin.
I am named for Jane Agar and Emily Brodie.
My name is Jane Ellen(mother preferred Ellen to Emily. I would have preferred the "Emily").
Are you the lady who owned the race horses?
I would enjoy hearing from you.
I live in California, where are you?

Jane, I am thrilled to hear from you. I feel as if someone from another planet has contacted me. Wow! Yes, I am the racehorse gal. I live in Vermont on my farm ... raising trees these days; painting, writing, gardening. My computer went crazy and has just been fixed after four months of computer hell. Your message reminds me I must reply to another Agar cousin. Please E-mail me and I'll tell you all about it. Where in California are you? I raced there, married, ranched, and had the first of my three daughters there. Ruth

Hello,
My great grandparents Morris and Emily (nee Broady) moved from Sheffield. The original spelling of our name was Eger.

I didn't know that Morris was born in Germany. I have a picture of Emily if you would like a copy.

I knew that my grandfather Hyman, was one of many siblings - seven sounds right. Hyman and brother David had a real estate company in Brooklyn. I have a marketing post card from them. Will dig it out. I think their company was also on Atlantic Ave. (the siblings were very close) I'm sure now that Nathan was brother to Hy and David - so I think we are may be closely related.
