In my research I have determined that there are
three distinct, unrelated branches of our family
in America: New York/Conneticut, Indiana/Iowa, and
Georgia. My family lineage is from Indiana, where my 4th
great-grandfather, William Agan, made his home and
raised his 9 children until his death in 1824.
Does anyone know of any linkage between these three branches?
I'm of the opinion that we would have to go back to
Northern Ireland to find that linkage. Another
question I have: are all the branches non-Catholics?
The Indiana/Iowa branch have their roots documented back
to the late 1770s in North Carolina, with a possible tie to
the Virginia highlands in the 1750s. We're wroking on
breaking through a brick wall now, that could result in a
name change occuring in the 1810 - 1820 time period. Due to
the people in question being illiterate, the official
enumerators of that time possibly changed their name. We have
discovered name variations within the family: Agan/Akin/Agin/
Eagan/Egan/Again.
Would like to hear from other Agans that find their roots in Indiana
or Iowa. I have 2 websites, one a family history at:
http://www.twobees.com and a USGenWeb site at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~inorange for the Orange
County, Indiana site.
Hope to hear from someone.
