I have been researching my AEBERSOLD family for nearly 10 years. My family's origin's are in Aeschlen, Oberdiessbach, Friemettigen and Müsingen, Canton Bern, Switzerland.
I have located records of every American descendant of the Carl Aebersold/Margaritha BALMER family who arrived in the USA in 1856. No one has records earlier than 1881.
The spelling of our family surname was recorded as EBERSOLD on the 1856 ship's passenger list and on all documents found in the USA.

Migration pattern:
My AEBERSOLD/EBERSOLD family arrived in New York, New York in 1856 and traveled to Muscatine, Iowa.
After a year (1857) in Muscatine, Iowa, they moved up the Mississippi river to an established Swiss community called the town of Tell, Buffalo County, Wisconsin.
A year later (1859), they moved across the Mississippi river to the Minnesota Territory, an area that is now called Wabasha, Wabasha County, Minnesota.
In 1861, they moved back across the Mississippi river to Tell, Wisconsin.
Most of the more than 300 descendants still live in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Listed below is my AEBERSOLD/EBERSOLD line:
Dale E. Ebersold (Myself), b. 5 Apr 1936, Trempealeau, Trempealeau Co., WI
Ralph Eugene Ebersold (Father), b.6 Jul 1907, Nelson, Buffalo Co., WI
August Ebersold (Grandfather), b. 16 Apr 1881, Modena, Buffalo Co., WI
Charles Ebersold (Great-Grandfather), b. 24 Nov 1844, Interlaken, Canton Bern, Switzerland
* * * All of the above information is verified by birth, marriage, death, and census records. * * *

All documents in the USA identify my Great-Grandfather (listed above) as Charles Ebersold. All documents in Switzerland identify him as Carl Aebersold.
* * * This is verified by a comparison of Julius Billeter's genealogical notes [AEBERSOLD von AESCHLEN], presumedly taken from Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche Oberdiessbach, Bern Kirchenbuch [church books of the Reformed Evangelist Oberdiessbach parish] and the packet ship SS ZURICH passenger manifest dated 1 Jun 1856 [Harve, France - New York, New York] * * *

Carl Aebersold (Great-Great-Grandfather), b. 23 Mar 1823, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
* * * Verified by Billeter notes and USA federal census reports * * *

Documents in the USA identify my Great-Great-Grandfather (listed above) as Carl or Charles Ebersold. His Swiss wife (Margaritha BALMER) died and he remarried and had three sons. I have located some of these descendants who further migrated to Texas, Arizona and California. I still believe there are some unidentified decendants from the Edward EBERSOLD family who was living in Phoenix, Arizona in 1920.

From this point, going back in time, I found ancestors back 10 more generations based only on Biletter's notes:
Carl Aebersold, b. 22 Oct 1797, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Christian Aebersold, b. 21 Mar 1750, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Christian Aebersold, b. 29 Sep 1720, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Hans Aebersold, b. 14 Feb 1691, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Peter Aebersold. b. 6 Feb 1658, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Hans Aebersold, b. 23 May 1630, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Hans Aebersold, b. 20 Nov 1602, Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Hans Aebersold, b. 7 Nov 1574, Friemettigen or Oberdiessbach, Bern, Switzerland
Konrad Aebersold, b. About 1540, Freimettigen, Switzerland
Konrad Aebersold, b. About 1513, Müsingen, Switzerland
* * * The b. date on the above 11 Aebersold's may actually be the christening date rather than birth date and the addresses are Place of Origin where the individual's birth/christening is recorded. * * *

Surnames: AEBERSOLD, BACHMANN
I have recently found out that I too had an Aebersold ancestor from Aeschlen, Oberdiessbach, Canton Bern, Switzerland.
He was my great-great grandfather though he never married my great-great grandmother. All I know of him at this time is that his name was Daniel Aebersold from Aeschlen, the child who belonged to him was my great-grandmother Elisabeth Bachmann born to Anna Barbara Bachmann of Ibach, Canton Bern, Switzerland in 1856.

Records from Switzerland indicate that Daniel Aebersold did acknowledge my great-grandmother as his child but I have no more personal details about him at present except that the records indicate that he was "from Aeschlen".

My great-grandmother Elisabeth Bachmann and her mother and stepfather (Stucki) did later come to the US in the mid 1870s and they settled in Ohio.

Hi,

I've already searched all those places on the internet but found no Daniel Aebersold that fits the time period, I'm sure I'll find something about him in future, I've only just found out about him recently. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Mainly I wanted to contact Dale Ebersold because his ancestors were from the same place (Aeschlen) in Switzerland as mine. Perhaps I'll hear from him later.

Thanks again.
