One of his children was Charles Alton Adkinson, who had a son named Charles Alton Adkinson who was my father. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio which is where I was born. Taylor: I have Isaac Newton Taylor as my G Grandfather, then my grandfather was Hosea Newton Taylor born in Centerville, Georgia around 1902. He had 2 brothers and a sister by the name of Maude, who according to my dad went to a finishing school for young ladies by the name of St. Albans...in New York or Pennsylvania. He said that G Grandfather was a cotton merchant before the Civil War and died 5 years after the war. He served in the Confederate Army of Virginia and came home from the war missing his right hand. My dad said the land they owned was "conscripted" (whatever that means) and the family resettled near Centerville Ga. There was some unrest in the family concerning my grandfather, Hosea Newton Taylor marrying an Indian girl so he and a brother moved to Junction City. After G grandmother died, Maude also moved to Junction city and resumed ties with Hosea. Hosea was said to have "bought the papers" from a farmer on a cotton buying trip in Arkansas, for Grandmother. Her name was Virginia McNabb. He was around 22 and Virginia was about 15. They were married in Junction City Ark in 1928. My father stated that he was only 4 years old when they were divorced. Hosea and Virginia had three sons, Howard Clinton Taylor born 1930, Thomas Newton, Born 1933 and Herbert Eugene (my dad) born 1935. My dad and mother, Phyllis Starley had 2 sons, Eugene and me, Veronon Craig Taylor. My dad and mother were divorced before I was born.
McNabb:
Virginia McNabbs mother was Lula Adkinson, her father was George Baxter McNabb. She had a brother Acey R. Mcnabb born 10-29-07 and sisters, Fanny born about 1903 who died at around 16 years old, and another sister Wilma (1912-14)? My grandmother Viginia born 12-24-09 in Georgia (my dad stated 1914 in Delight Arakansas), Acey and Fanny were sold or traded when they were children. Her mother Lula Adkinson evidently died in a drowning accident in Feb 1922. She is buried in Whitfield County Ga. From what I can gather, Lula's mothers name was Eve. My grandmother Virginia married a John W Atkinson (Adkinson) and they had about 9 children: We believe the names are Acey, Alvin, Albert, Charles, Margie, Phyllis, Virgil, Virginia and Vivian (gathered on the rootsweb site). Grandmother died in Sept 1986 in California according to my dad. We think she also abandoned the Atkinson (adkinson) children around Hot Springs Arkansas. Some where in the McNabb information we obtained there is also the mention of a Viola and Will Adcock.
Any information you could provide would be very much appreciated. Also if you have any contact information for people who might know. From the roots web site around 2000 there was a Debbie Brantley who seemed to have quite a bit of information, we believe she is in the Acey R. McNabb line. Thanks again for responding. . . we are hopeful we can make a positive connection to our family soon.

We have been looking for information about my grandmother for some time. The family tree has been ending with my dad, Herbert Eugene Taylor because no one knew any information. I am the second son of Herbert Eugene Taylor and Phyllis Starley. My name is Vernon Craig Taylor. My older brother is Eugene "Gene" Taylor. I knew that there was some Cherokee in the family from my dad's stories (the few he related to me). If anyone has the family tree information for Virginia back, I would be very grateful. I would also like to get any stories or history. From what I have recently found on the internet, her mother was Lula Adkinson. I know that Virginia also married an Adkinson? which makes it hard to trace the family tree for sure. I am also looking for information on my grandfather, Hosea Newton Taylor and the family tree back. I believe that his father was Isaac Newton Taylor. Thanks to Debbie Brantley who posted about 8 years ago I have some leads. I would really appreciate any response and help with my family line. Although the evidence is circumstantial, I believe Rachel's parents were Robert and Rebecca Henderson Adkinson. There were a number of Adkinsons (sometimes spelled Adkison) who migrated from Fountain County in the mid 1800s, some settling in Peru, Miami County, Indiana and others in Iowa. Rachel Adkinson Ludlow and her husband Benjamin settled in Muscatine County, Iowa where their children were born, then in Madison Co. where they were joined by Andrew Jackson Adkinson, a man I believe was Rachel's younger brother. Yet another brother, Lewis D. Adkinson, settled in Peru, Indiana and this biographical sketch appears in the 1887 History of Miami County:

"HON. LEWIS D. ADKISON, a prominent citizen and pioneer of Peru, is a native of Fayette County, Indiana, born about eight miles west of Connersville, May 26th, 1816. His parents, Robert and Rebecca (Henderson) Adkison, were born in North and South Carolina respectively, of Irish lineage. The father in 1829 moved to Fountain County, where his death occurred one year later. The mother was born in the year 1776, and departed this life on the 27th of August, 1846. Lewis D. Adkison, when thirteen years of age, accompanied his parents to Fountain County, where for two years he worked on his father’s farm. His early educational advantages were limited, being only those derived from attendance at the indifferent county schools for that period about three months each year, until he arrived at the age of eighteen. He left home in the spring of 1835, and went to Logansport, where he worked at brick making until the following Fall, at which time he came to Peru and secured employment on the Wabash and Erie Canal, then in progress of construction. After one year spent as workman on the canal Mr. Adkison accepted a clerkship in the mercantile house of D.R. Bearss, and later was engaged in the same capacity by Mr. Bearss’ successor, Jacob Lindsey, acting as clerk in all about three years. In 1838, he was appointed by Governor Wallace Sheriff of Miami County to fill the unexpired term of Asa Leonard, who died in office, and at the ensuing elected in 1840 was chosen Sheriff, the duties of which position he discharged for about four years. On leaving the office he engaged in the plaster’s and brick laying trades and after continuing the same for some four years, opened a general store in Peru, which he conducted with good success for sometime. He subsequently abandoned that line of trade and for some years was engaged in the lumber business, which he carried on quite extensively in connection with a general store in Peru, which he conducted with good success for sometime. In 1868 he returned to Indiana and settled in Fulton County, where, until 1874, he was engaged in agricultural pursuits, disposing of his farm at the end of that time and returning to Peru. In 1874-5 he was Assistant Doorkeeper of the Indiana State Senate, and in 1882 was elected State Senator from the counties of Miami and Howard. He took an active part in the deliberations of that body and served on some of the most important committees, among which were these: Banks and Banking, Public Printing, Public Buildings, Swamp Lands, Fees and Salaries, etc. Since the expiration of his term as legislator, Mr. Adkison has been engaged in the insurance business and loaning money at Peru. On December 16th, 1840, he married Mrs. Lucy Davis, daughter of the late Judge Albert Cole, of Peru, by whom he had four children, only one of whom, Lucy A., wife of James H. Fetter, is living. Mrs. Adkison was born in the year 1820, and died March 11th, 1885. Mr. Adkison was originally a Whig, but since the organization of the Republican party, he has been an ardent supporter of its principles. He is a member of the Presbyterian church and belongs to the Odd Fellows fraternity."

Looking for descendants of Peter Marshall Adkinson (c.1859-1937) and Mary Susan (Meadows) Adkinson who moved to Pocahontas County from Summers County sometime after 1910. He died in Pocahontas in 1937; she died there in 1940. They had known children: Charles William, Gertrude M., Mary Grace (married a SHANKS??), and Ocie E.

Mary Susan Meadows was a sister of my great-grandfather.

This is an old posting. Hampton's father was John C. Adkinson, not C.S. Adkison. C.S was Charles Schultz Adkinson, Hampton's brother.

I am looking for information on Rachel Adkinson's parents. I believe that her mother was Rebecca Adkinson(unknown maiden name) and that she was born in South Carolina. I am unsure of her father's name but he was born in North Carolina. Rachel was born in 1811 in Fountain Co. Indiana, married Benj. Ludlow 18 Jun 1829, died 12 Jun 1883 in Winterset, Madison, Iowa. Rebecca shows up in Fountain county's records in 1830, but no husband. I am assuming he is dead. A conformation on Rebecca's connection to Rachel and her dates as well as Rachel's father's information is what I am looking for. Thanks!!

Rank and organization: Sergeant, U.S. Army, Company C, 119th Infantry, 30th Division. Place and date: Near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. Entered service at: Memphis, Tenn. Born: 4 January 1892, Egypt, Tenn. G.O. No.: 59, W.D., 1919. Citation: When murderous machinegun fire at a range of 50 yards had made it impossible for his platoon to advance, and had caused the platoon to take cover Sgt. Adkinson alone, with the greatest intrepidity, rushed across the 50 yards of open ground directly into the face of the hostile machinegun kicked the gun from the parapet into the enemy trench, and at the point of the bayonet captured the 3 men manning the gun. The gallantry and quick decision of this soldier enabled the platoon to resume its advance.

I am searching for the family of Hampton Peter Adkison, b. 1817 in IL (probably Gallatin Co.). Was living in Saline Co. at the time of the 1850 Census (Hampton AdkiNson).

His father was John C. Adkinson, living next door to him in 1850. Hampton married Elizabeth Shults/Schultz abt 1841 in IL. Moved to Desha Co., AR before 1860 and to Bosque Co., TX after 1870 and before 1880.

If I am following the group correctly, Jesse Adkinson b.1842 d.1917 buried in the Atkisson Cemetery in El Paso,White County,Arkansas is the Grandson of Jesse and Patsy Adkisson. And the son of Sampson and Martha. 1842 Jesse married Nancy J. Arnold they had a daughter named Susan Elizabeth Adkinson b.1874 m. Noah Maynard Strickland b. 1874 (Noah M. Strickland,Jesse and Nancy J all being in the same Adkisson Cemetery in El Paso.) Susan E. aka:"Susie" aka "Lizzie" Adkinson died in San Francisco County, California 8 May 1958 Source: California Death Index (I do not know where she is buried at this point). Susan & Noah had daughter named Virginia Lee, b. 7
June 1910 d. 2 Feb 1990, Redding,Shasta Co.,Calif.

Their daughter,Mollie Jo Price, was my Aunt. Mollie was b. 13 Jan 1933 Arkansas d. 13 Mar 1988 in Redding,Shasta Co.,Calif. I am researching for her daughter Sandra, my cousin. Does anyone know where Sampson and Martha died? are buried? Jesse and Nancy J. had several children. I was able to extract those names from 1900 and 1910 Census and some of Virginia's siblings also moved to California and settled in the San Francisco Area.

I found the name of Wilbert ADKINSON on a list of names circulated by Oregon State Hospital patient memorial workgroup.

From the late 1800s to the 1970s the bodies of patients that were not claimd by family after their deaths at the mental hospital were burned and put into copper canisters/urns and then labeled and put on a shelf in an abandoned part of the hospital. The Oregon State Hospital, a mental facility, has been in Salem for about 123 years. If anyone thinks that their relative may be on the list of people that have gone unclaimed, please contact me at LiMaSum@aol.com and I'll look on the list. Or the list may still be available in pdf format online. You'll have to have adobe acrobat to read it.

This is the available info on the above mentioned:

So evidently they were living at the mental hospital in Salem, Oregon in 1928.
