Researching my great-great-grandmother:

Basha Idella Berryhill Adkins
b - June 30 1872 Utica, Mississippi
d - May 02,1952 Sugerland, Texas

Married on Novemebr 26, 1889 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to:

Frank Harrison Brock
b - April 23, 1870 Utica, Mississippi
d - May 05, 1963 Sugarland, Texas

There were 3 sons and 10 daughters from their marriage.

They came to Texas on their honeymoon and lived in Valley View, Texas before moving to Oklahoma. During that time my Grandmother, Nina Ruth Brock was born in Noble Oklahoma. They then moved back to Texas. They lived in Sugar Land, Polacious, Goliad, and then settled in Sugarland which is considered the Family Seat in Texas.

I am researching them not only for Family history to present at the Annual Family Reunion held every July in Sugar Land but also to prove or Disprove Cherokee Native Blood as records in the family state that both Basha and Frank were of French and Cherokee Indian Tribal Descent..

Adkins Family - Whitley Co., KY/Campbell Co., TN area

I am having a problem tracing my Adkins line from the Whitley Co., KY and Campbell Co., TN areas. My great grandfather was William M. Adkins (b 1867 - 1872). According to his death certificate, his father was named David Adkins. His mother's name was unknown to the informant. But I cannot connect my William Adkins to any of the Davids I have located. I wonder if the informant might have been mistaken? Different sources give his birth year as anywhere between 1867 and 1872. So I am not sure if I should be finding him in 1870 but I know I should be able to find him in 1880...but I cannot. William was married to Lucretia Adkins first and then to Lottie Bailey. Can anyone help me find William's parents?

I am looking for the parents of my great-grandfather Dave (David?) Adkins, who was probably born in 1850, possibly in Tennessee or Kentucky. His wife's name was Polly. They had several children including my grandfather - William Jacob Adkins who was
born April 10, 1885 in Pickett County, TN.
Dave and Polly also had at least two more sons named George and Tom and probably at
least two daughters whose names I do not
know.

My grandfather was born Henry Adkins in Sandy Hook. He and three Adkins girls were living at an orphanage or poorhouse in Elliott County run by a John Hay. Henry was adopted by a John and Thurs Watson. I'm looking for info on his parents. Anyone know of this poorhouse or Adkins' given up for adoption? The other Adkins' at the poorhouse were Abigail, Elizabeth, and Candice/Candace.

Looking for the last name of William A Atkins 1794 NC, wife Rachael born abt 1816 in Bera Kentucky. They first lived somewhere in Alabama and had at least one child them moved to Weakley Co TN around 1850. ON the Census there. Then after the 1850 census they moved to Henry Co TN and lived until sometime after the 1860 census. After that at least Rachael and what was left of the family moved to Mississippi County Missouri. She dies in Charleston Miss. Missoui in 1879. The rest of the family go their own way after the 1880 Census in Missouri.

Have no other info. There is someone out there that knows abt the date of 1816 and someone else knows about Bera Kentucky. That is where I found these two items.

James & Maggie were living in the Callands District of Pittsylvania County, Virginia on the 1900 census. James was widowed by the 1910 census.

I would very much like to have xerox copies of the original hand-written Deeds, Wills, Church Records, Court Records, Marriage Records, and so on of William Adkins and his son, Parker V. Adkins.

If Parker was, indeed, in the Revolutionary War, it'd be swell have a copy of his Pension File (if there is one).

Also, I'd love to have the same materials from the direct line from Parker Adkins on up past William Adkins.

This is the Parker V. Adkins who may have been married to Bluesky, daughter of Cornstalk.

Struck by Lightning
Huntington, W. Va., May 18 - During the storm last night Ruben Adkins, a carpenter sixty years of age, was struck by lightning. He was hurled to the ground by the shock which rendered him unconscious. How long he lay there he does not know as his faculties were confused, but he arose presently, apparently unhurt, and started to go on to the house of his son, Nathaniel Adkins. He had only got as far as Fourth Avenue when the reaction set in and he had to be carried to his home. He is better today though still suffering much.

of New Kensington, died Saturday, April 5, 2008. He was born June 12, 1966, in Wilkins Township, a son of Charles Richard Adkins, of Murrysville, and the late Audrey Champ Adkins. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Richard Staudt. He was a machinist for Versa-Lab of New Kensington, and a member of the Harley-Davidson HOG Association. In addition to his father, he is survived by a son, Chris, of New Kensington; a granddaughter, Avery; two sisters and two brothers, Kimberly Jean Bradford, William S. Adkins, Russell M. Adkins and Lauren Beth Kolesar; and three nieces, Nikki, Krystina and Melyssa. No visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville, with Pastor Ron Jordan officiating. Interment in Murrysville Cemetery. I have just begun looking into this branch of my family tree, and I am confused by postings I am finding. I have found Mary Elizabeth's birth in conflicting years. Some have her born in 1670; others give her birth as 1715. She is listed as the mother of William V. Adkins, but his birth is 1689 and totally out of the possibility of being her natural son if she was, in fact, born in 1715. Did Joseph Adkins have several wives, and Mary Elizabeth was a step mother to William V. Adkins? Does anyone have documentation of her birth?

Peter Marshall Adkins/Adkinson (1854-1937) and Mary Susan Meadows (1859-1940) were married about 1881, probably in Summers County, WV. I have been unable to locate Mary Susan Meadows in the 1880 census (I have located Peter in that census). Mary Susan Meadows was a daughter of Madison C. Meadows and Mary Ann Garten and I did find her in their household in the Monroe County, WV census (Summers County was not formed until 1871). I have not located Mary's parents in the 1880 census either, although I believe that her mother had died prior to that year.

Any help appreciated. Mary was a sister of my great-grandfather Nathaniel Meadows.

Marjorie Stewart Adkins, 94 years of Peebles, OH died January 3, 2008 at the Adams County Regional Medical Center in Seaman, OH. She was born in Greenup County, KY on October 1, 1913 the daughter of the late William and Almedia (Leslie) Stewart. She was a member of the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union. Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Truman Adkins, and two sons, Ray and James Adkins. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerry Jo and Naomi Adkins of Peebles, OH, daughter-in-law, Mickey Adkins of Peebles, OH, grandchildren, Jamie, Mike, Gary, and Renee, great grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley, and nine great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on January 5, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union with Dave Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sinking Spring, OH.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 until time of service at the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union.

I've came to a brick wall in my research. I was wondering if anyone had any info. that could help me out.

I'm looking for information about the parent's of Henderson Lee Adkins b. Jan. 18, 1886 in Kentucky. The only info. I have is his mothers name was Molly Adkins b. abt. Aug. 1868 in KY. And also seemed to have went by the first name Mellinda or Mary. According to my Grandfather she was a fullblooded Cherikee Indian and may have also lived in Oklahoma. I'm also looking for information about Henderson's biological father who was unknown with the surename Howard, for Henderson was adopted by Mollys second husband or husband and used the surename Adkins. I've found information about them in the census, but have been unable to find anymore info.

Is there anyone on this list that is researching the Abner ADKINS family mentioned above? The Abner ADKINS that I am interested in married Nancy HOOPER, daughter of Bailey HOOPER of Humphreys County, TN. Sometime during or after 1839 and before 1843, Abner and his wife Nancy and three children moved to Missouri. After they arrived in Missouri they had two more children. Abner allegedly died in Lebanon County, Missouri in 1861. Nancy was still living there on the 1880 census. Any help will be appreciated and I'll try to help you...if you need any.

I would like to urge males who carry the Adkins name (or any variation) and have a direct male line of Adkins back to your earliest male ancestor to have a DNA test. You can do this at familytreedna.com or there are other companies who do this too. If you know your line back a long way you may think this is unnecessary but consider those of us who don't have such a long line. You may find some new relatives and we may knock down that brick wall we have been trying to overcome. There will probably be others who will be glad to share some of the cost with you. I have 2 Adkins lines and have found several people who match both of them, but like me, we just know we are related but not how. Those of you who have more complete information could help and you might find some people you are proud to call relatives.

Anyone have any info on a Clarinda Adkins from Elliott Cty area KY? She was supposedly married to a William Adkins and may have died before 1900. Had children but given up perhaps after she died. They were born in the 1890s. Her maiden name was Barker.
I do know one of the kids was adopted by a Thurs Adkins Watson, and she had a brother William, I want to know if it is the same William or another William altogether.

RIPLEY - Homer L. Adkins, 83, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a member and trustee of Moses Chapel United Methodist Church. He was retired. He was the husband of the late Bernice Adkins.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Moses Chapel United Methodist Church in Ripley with the Rev. Alphonso Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Boyd Cemetery in Ripley. Foster and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Arleen Adkins of Chicago, and Mary Adkins, Rita Peterson and Wendy Adkins, all of Ripley; three sons, William Adkins and Michael Adkins, both of Chicago, and Bartholomew Adkins of Ripley; two sisters, Callie Alexander and Myra Graham, both of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Jack Adkins of Chicago; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

Eula Deen Adkins, 93, New Hampton, Mo., died April 11, 2004, at a Chillicothe, Mo. health care center.
Mrs. Adkins was born in Harrison County, Mo., on Feb. 1, 1911, the daughter of John Floyd and Bertha Mae (Edgar) Smith. She married Frank Adkins on May 26, 1928, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1984. She was a homemaker and member of the New Hampton Christian Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, son Royce Adkins and sister Autolean Baker.
Surviving are daughter-in-law Dorothy Adkins, Trenton; three grandchildren, Pamela Robertson, Douglas and Robert Adkins, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial will be in the Foster Cemetery, New Hampton. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Foster Cemetery and/or Chillicothe Hospice.

SOMONAUK - Flo Adkins, 95, of Somonauk, formerly of LaForge, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 7, in Somonauk.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Apostolic Church in Sandwich with the Rev. John William Davis officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid, Mo.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation also will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid. Local arrangements were handled by Turner Funeral Home in Somonauk.
Mrs. Adkins was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Harmony, Ark., to John A. Adkins and Lura Porter Adkins.
She is survived by a brother, John A. Adkins Jr. of Merced, Calif.; and a sister-in-law and caretaker, Doris Adkins of Somonauk, with whom she resided for the last 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Deulah Adkins; and many brothers and sisters, including Jack and Ivan Adkins and Eula Jean Kumlien

Corrine Adkins, 73, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at her residence.
Born April 12, 1931, in Houston, Ark., daughter of the late James Herman and Nancy Jane Lee Meese, she was a homemaker and a member of the Kimball Baptist Church in Malden.
On Feb. 25, in Piggott, Ark., she married Clyde Adkins, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Debbie Furrll, and husband, Fred, of Toledo, Ohio; three grandchildren, Gary Wayne Pyland of Albuquerque, N.M., Glen Allen Pyland of Malden, Mo. and Toby Johnson of Manchester, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, McKenna Lee Pyland of Malden, Mo., Alexis Giles of Manchester, Mich. and Noah Giles of Manchester, Mich.; one sister, Gladys Hartsfield and husband, Al, of Malden, Mo.; three brothers, James Meese of Flint, Mich., Bob Meese of Malden, Mo. and John Meese of Clarkton, Mo.; one brother-in-law and Jack Adkins of Kennett, Mo.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Terry Adkins, two sisters, Verlon Hogan and Violet Meese, four brothers, Carl Gene Meese, Nen Meese, Jackie Meese and Clyde Meese.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 3 at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Jim Cornman and Rev. Gene Lancaster officiating.
Burial will follow at the Rosewood First Addition Cemetery in Malden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Meese, Jeremy Meese, Dean Meese, Johnny Lynn Meese, Everette Meese and Johnny Meese.

Salada b abt 1880 in King William marr J. L. Mundie abt 1910. Need parents for J. L. & Salada. Have one child for them Maxie Mundie b abt 1911 marr Fannie B. Turner. Fannie was the dau of William Henry Turner & Betty Burl Toler.
