Ensign Francis M. Adams married Gladys Hastie 1923 Seattle, Washington

The Seattle Daily Times
Sunday Morning, August 12, 1923
Page 7, Column 4
Ensign Weds Seattle Girl
Miss Gladys Hastie Becomes Bride of Naval Officer at Church Service
The marriage of Miss Gladys Hastie, daughter of Mr. A.W. Hastie of Seattle to Ensign Francis McKee Adams of the U.S.S. Nevada, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Adams of Troy, Alabama, was celebrated yesterday afternoon at Trinity Church, the Rev. William H. Bliss reading the services at 4 o’clock.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was very charming in ivory crepe georgette over satin, long and slender of silhouette and untrimmed save for fine embroidery. Her tulle veil was bound with orange blossoms and her bouquet was a shower of orchids, lilies of the valley and bride roses.

Miss Dorothy Willard, the maid of honor, was gowned in apricot brocaded charmeuse, trimmed with pearls and carried Columbia roses. Strands of pearls formed her headdress.

The maids, the Misses Marion Burton, May Mullen, Mary O’George, Margaret Jordan, Linda O’Krusch and Mrs. Roy Hudson, wore bouffant gowns of taffeta in the pastel shades. The bouquets were of small midsummer flowers to match the gowns and the headdresses were tulle turbans.

Ensign Eugene B. Vose of the U.S.S. Nevada was best man and the ushers were Ensigns Leslie Knisken, Roy Clare Hudson, Sherman Clark, Matthew Kelly, Murlane Farrar and Robert W. Berry.

Standards of gladioluses, deep rose and faint pink, down the aisle and in the candle lit chancel were simple but singularly effective decorations.

A small reception at the Hastie residence followed the ceremony.

Ensign and Mrs. Adams will be in Bremerton from October 1 until the middle of November, when they leave for San Pedro.

Mrs. Adams was educated at the University of Washington and the University of Idaho. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Mortar Board, senior girls’ honorary.

Mr. Adams is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Class of 1922.

I still live in the area that she raised all of her kids. I know she died in Muse, and i've seen her headstone at the cemetery, pictures; etc. I'm looking for an indian roll number.I know that if she wasn't full blood, she was close.

Hi Valerie. Ashal "Asa" Adams (my 3rd Great Grandfather) was b. 1777 in NC. I think he was Ezekiel's youngest or next to the youngest. He married Pherity (Elizabeth) Barfoot a Cherokee Indian, he probably changed her name to Elizabeth so people wouldn't know she was Indian. They had 6 children, with my GG Grandfather Nelson being their 3rd oldest. Asa served in the War of 1812 with Austin's Regiment SC Militia. He moved to Tenn @1810-1812. He settled in Hamilton Co. and owned over 1,100 acres. He died in 1871 in Ooltewah, Hamilton Co., TN. His children were Sarah m. Peter Harley Sylar, Mardlin m. Stephen Mathis, Nelson m. Martha Angeline Mathis, Giles m. Elizabeth ?, Mary m. William Bagwell, Elizabeth m. Calvin Dale. Pherity died in 1870 in Hamilton Co. I have a good bit of info on Asa and if you look up my family tree on Ancestry.com you can see more.
From Asa up it is Ezekiel, Willoughby, Abraham and John. I am trying to find info on John b. 1625 who came to the U.S. in 1645. I know he caught a ship in London and landed in Baltimore and was one of 11 men and their families that a wealthy NC land owner paid their way over to work for him. John was a carpenter/farmer. John was not married when he came over. Would you have any info on John by any chance? If I can help you with more info just let me know. I'm always looking for new info to help knock down some brick walls. Hope this helps you with Asa.
Tom Adams

One descends through James and the other through Ezekiel Jr. both sons of Ezekiel, son of Willoughby. My husband descends from Abraham through his son, Richard, a brother to Willoughby. I would like to know more about Asa as I did not have him listed.
Valerie Adams

Tommy, it sure would be interesting to see if your line connects to any of the other Adams lines. When my cousin did the family tree dna test, he matched only one other Adams, that of an Asa Adams born about 1819, who lived in Guilford Co, NC (may have been born in what is now Alamance, but then was part of Orange Co) That's why I am so curious. Also, my line of Adams is somehow connected to the region of Campbell, or Claiborne Co TN area, or at least that is what we think. I haven't been able to establish the parents of that Asa Adams, but on his son's death certificate the informant was an Adams from Pittsylvania Co VA. (Round and round we go) It's really a confusing line, which dna connects to some other english surnames like Davenport, Ballard, Martin, and Eaton. In some ways the dna test only added to the questions we have about our line. All we know is that our Adams were in NC between the years of 1825-1835.

I think it may benefit your research to do the dna test, and also be helpful to others too. Should be interesting to be sure!

All the best

Elise, MN

Just let me know where to send it.
Did I read that you are from Willoughby's line? I might be thinking of someone else.
My Tree is on Ancestry.com and feel free to check it out. The "trail" that Asa Adams took is similar to my Adams, though in the end, mine went to Missouri in 1837. Curious to discuss this with you.

Elise,MN

This is very enlightening. Apparently numerous family trees on Ancestry have attached William Adams and Susannah England to your line in error. This does complicate matters to a certain extent but on the brighter side, the England family has kept outstanding records so instead of attempting to unravel the Adams conundrum I will start with the England family and see if they might offer any clues. If nothing materializes there will focus on more Adams research. Nathan's family sounds very promising, and I'm glad to know there is a history of Marion County on Ancestry. Very grateful for your assistance. Sincerely, Nancy West

Hello. My name is Jessica Adams.
I am 13 years old and I am related to this family. I have done all the research. If you are related to John Quincy Adams and Joseph Morgan Calhoun Adams, Than that means you must be related to me too. If you email me privately, we can talk about this. I really want to learn about my family History and you seem to know about it. I know we are in the same family and it'd be nice to find out how exactly we're related.

Hello again! Trying to make the time to get this info digested and onto paper! My correspondence may be sporadic as I try to fill in the blanks as it were. I have to ask the significance of the "muchos gatos"? Is the family a lover of cats as we are? Also the number 27? Just curious. The second Edith Stanley( actually the first or elder) also had the middle name Jane? My information was that Edith died after my Grandmother Edith Jane was born. My GGfather Henry then married Emmeline Adams ( Dora's sister) and they had Henry, Allan, William, Delie and Laura. Is that correct? Then Henry died and Emmeline remarried William Myles Adams and they had one son, Vincent? Do you have full names for all of the siblings on your side? I would appreciate getting that information along with birthdates etc. if and when you have the time. The photos you mentioned would also be great to have. I have a couple of photos of GGBob (Dora and her husband) but in later years. Nothing earlier.

Thanks so much for sharing and I could forward a cheque or money order to cover the cost of photos. Just let me know.

Thanks again. Vicki

Dora's father was Edwin Felix Edward Adams "Skipper Ed" 1837-1917); his wife was Mary Harriet Guignon (1840-1919).
These are my ggrandparents. Dora's brother, Edward Alude Edwin is my grandfather. You have all Dora's siblings and yes, there is a Laura Esther (1867-1879).
Edith Jane Stanley married Henry Angus Stanley. Edith's parents were John Stanley & Louise Rachel Rose from Roseville.
Roseville became Rosebridge in 1912 when the post office was brought in as there was another Roseville somewhere in Quebec.
Hope this helps answer some of the questions.

Kevin,

Your William was born about 1778 and died in 1820. He was likely born in Northern VA because his father Daniel Adams, Sr. lived there until 1780 when he moved his family to Rowan County, NC. His wife was Hannah. Sometime after 1790 the family moved into KY. Daniel, Sr. died in Pulaski County 1814. His Will is probated there. His oldest boys Sylvester and Ephraim are named in the Will. According to the 1787 NC census, Daniel had 7 boys and 4 girls at that time. Other boys included Nathan, Nimrod, and Elijah. There may have also been a John. There were cousins in Garrard and Rockcastle Counties, named Daniel and Abraham. Daniel, Sr. had a brother Abraham, Sr. living in Madison County KY who died in or before 1816. Daniel, Sr. was born in 1743 in Northern VA. HIs father was George born about 1705 also in VA. George's father was John.

Ruby and Ruthie Adams, b.Oct1895 TX, twin dau. of Algernon/Lora Adams, lived Johnson Co., TX

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of twin girls “Ruby and Ruthie Adams”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1896 and they look to be about 8 months old.

I found the twins with their parents A. N. (Algernon N.) and Lora Adams, in the 1900 census for Johnson Co., TX. Birthdate for the girls was Oct 1895. With the parents and twin girls lived twin boys born Sep 1897, Lloyd and Floyd Adams. The family remained in Johnson Co., TX and both girls are shown through 1910 census, but parents remained on with their siblings Aloy, Albert and Margie. TX Death Records show that Ruby died as Ruby Adams in Yoakum Co., TX in Dec 1982. An Ancestry World Tree indicates her husband’s name might have been Beattie.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to twins Ruthie and Ruby Adams.

Some of the information you have entered below is incorrect. My Grandfather, Edwin MacWilliams died on Feb. 6th 1978( not 1960). My Grandmother (his wife) was Edith Jane Stanley and died in 1959. Edwin (my Grandfather) parents were Dora Ann Adams and Robert Muirhead MacWilliams. They only had the one child...my grandfather Edwin.

Edith Jane Stanleys parents were Henry A. Stanley and (another) Edith Stanley
Dora Anns parents were Edwin Adams and Mary Louise Guignion

My mother, Inez, verified this information through some Adams Families in Gaspe/Fontenelle area as well as gravestones.

The info about Ray, Inez and Edwin is incorrect. My mother was the youngest of five children....Raymond, Norman, Hazen ( who was a twin but the twin died at birth or shortly thereafter), Wendell and then my mother Inez. They were the children of Edwin and Edith Jane.

I also have listed as siblings of Dora Ann...Edwin, Stephen, Allan, Sarah, Julia, Emmeline, Ambrose and a question mark for Esther.

I did not have the names Felix Edward Edwin Adams as Doras father....only Edwin.

I hope this clarifies some of the information.

Jackson Adams - Magoffin Kentucky

Hello fellow researchers. I was looking more closely at records for my gg grandfather, Jackson Adams. Almost everyone on this site, including myself, show Jackson as being married twice. He was first married to Nancy Cooper, and later married Galathia Reffett . Like many of you, i assumed Nancy must have died young (somewhere around 1846) and Jackson simply remarried and continued to father children. The 1850 census shows Jackson, and his new bride Galtha (spelled Latha in the census), along with what I assumed to be Nancy's children, and a few of Glatha's children. Glatha was assumedly too young to be the mother of the older children in the census. I wanted to learn more about his first wife, Nancy. There simply aren't many records to be found. However, one keeps popping up, and it leads me to believe I was on the wrong track all along. That record is the 1880 census. There are two Jackson's, living in Kentucky, roughly the same age in 1880. One is my gg grandfather, with his wife Glatha, and some kids, living in Magoffin County. There is another, living in Estill, and their name is spelled Addams. The Estill Jackson is living with a Nancy! On it are two new children that I haven't accounted for. On the same page is Fielding and his family (originally thought to be a son of Magoffin Jackson and Nancy). I am now thinking there were two Jackson's and that Nancy didn't die until 1880 or later. The problem is, this little theory causes even more confusion. If there are two Jackson's, did they each have a son named Fielding? in 1850, Magoffin Jackson is shown having a son named Fielding. How did this Fielding end up neighbors of the second Jackson (and his wife Nancy) in 1880 in Estill? Coincidence? Was my Jackson really married twice or was he married to Glatha all along? Their marriage record indicates they were married in 1847. However, the 1850 census shows children born before then. Was Jackson fathering children with Glatha prior to their marriage? She would have been only 9 or 10 when the oldest was born. That's awful young, even in those days. Maybe there is only one Jackson, and he is married to two women? I've twisted myself up at this point. I am hoping some of what I said here makes sense, and I would love to discuss these findings with others tracing this name, to try and make heads or tails of it. Please shoot me a message with your thoughts. Thanks, Cort (belairpm)

Re: Adams and Stanley families from Gaspe Quebec (Fontenelle specifically)

I have Edith Jane Stanley born 19 Dec 1882 in Roseville, Gaspe, Quebec Canada died abt. 1960 in Prince Edward Island. She was married abt. 1903 in Gaspe to Edwin Mac Williams who was born around 1885 in Prince Edward Island and died around 1960 also in PEI. His parents were Edward Mac Williams born on PEI abt. 1860, died 1937 PEI and Dora Adams born 15 Sept 1863 in Gaspe, Quebec, died in 1950. They were married in Gaspe abt. 1885 and had Ray, Inez and Edwin and perhaps another child. My grandfather, Stephen Thadeus Adams was Dora's brother so most of my information relates to the Adams side of the family. Dora's parents were Felix Edward Edwin Adams and Mary Harriet Guignon who married Jan. 2 1861 in Gaspe. Hope this helps some.
