My father, Albert C. Adam, was born in Hilkerode in 1892 and left when he was about 17. He eventually landed in Galveston,TX, USA, joined the US Army, graduated from 2 colleges and married my mother, Carrie Place Adam, in 1923.
There were 9 siblings in his family, Alfons Adam and Eugene Adam, both coming to the US and settling in PA and NY for the rest of their lives.
Please write if you know or are related to this family. Thanks

Hello Hipsterwoman,

my name is Claus Schmidt, I live near Köln (Cologne), Germany.

First I want to excuse me, because my English isn‘t good.

I belong to the family you are looking for.

My mother was born with the name Annegret Adam. Her father was Aloys Adam, born in Hilkerode at 20.04.1902.

I don’t know how much siblings my grandfather had, but I remember, that his brothers Albert, Alfons and Eugene (in German: Eugen), who lived in the USA, visited the home of my parents, where also my grandparents lived, in the early sixties. The name of two wifes of his brothers were Carrie and Bertha, the third name I don’t remember.

I also knew two sisters of them:

Gertrud, born with the surename Adam (she lived her whole life in Hilkerode), and Emma Adam, who was a nun (with the name Sr. Ephrem) and lived for long years as a missonary in Congo in Africa. She died in a monastery in Venlo, Netherlands.

I would be delighted if you would answer me, because also I wish to know more about the families of the uncles of my mother.

Kind regards from Germany,

Claus Schmidt

Hello Grace,

thanks for the very fast reply. I had little hope of obtaining even a reply, as your search dates back more than 5 years.

It wasn't possible to use your email adress, I don't know why, so I answer this way.

I hope that we will remain in contact to get to know us.

Please tell me the timedifference between your home and Germany, so we can find a time which we can have contact (here now it is nearly 01:00 h 12.02.).

My email is

nc-schmidga25@netcologne.de
or
coloniaenettuno@gmx.de
Kindly regards

Claus
