There are several Nancy Acuff's in my family tree. The only one that is close to your Nancy was born about 1807 probably in Grainger Co., Tennessee and died in 1891. I show her as marrying a William Horton. Her parents were John Acuff born 1768, died 1866 and Nancy (Nan) Watson born 12/21/1767 died sometime before 1817. Both were born in Virginia and died in Gainger co.,TN. They were married 8/24/1790 in Martinsville, Henry Co., Virginia. Their children were James, Thomas, Robert, John, David, Richard, Benjamin, Nicholas, Jerimiah, Nancy, Charles, Sallie and Elizabeth. After first wife, Nancy Watson died, he married a Nancy Harmon. Quite and impressive collection of Acuff's, unfortunately, I didn't find a connection. I was wondering if in your research you might have come across Catherine Acuff b. April 4, probably 1839 who m. Robert Williams Feb. 4, 1858. Marriage license obtained in Hawkins Co. Catherine was widowed when Robert died in the Civil War. Been trying to locate her family but so far, no luck. She is said to have had a sister Lizzie and brother Marion or F. Marion Acuff buried at Three Springs, TN. Any of this sound familiar? Thanks for you help.

I really appreciate the time and effort you took to post the information that you posted, but I am afraid that your Nancy is not my Nancy. The information I have on mine, was garnered from a biography in Goodspeed of Lauderdale Co., TN 1887. It was one pertaining to her oldest son, Jarvis Pike Taylor.
Once again, I really do thank you for your information, and I am certain that there will be many people that will benefit from it.

I read the tree Randy Jones had for the Acuffs; excellent! However, Nicholas Mulkey Acuff did not die in 1877. He died March 8, 1938 in Hamlin, Jones Co., Texas. He is my great-great grandfather (by marriage). He married Sarah Ann Buie Aug. 29, 1880 in Belfonte, Boone Co., Arkansas. I do not as yet have all the children listed, just my great grandmother so far. Anyone have any more info?

Have you run across any more info re: Richard BURNETT/Polly JAMES? I believe my Benjamin BURNETT, b. 1 Oct 1810 Grainger Co TN, to be their eldest child. Benj is living next door to Joseph BURNETT 1830, but everyone I've corresponded with state "not s/o Joseph/Sarah", so possibly g-son? Benj m Mary DAY, of Claiborne Co TN; to Putnam Co IN 1838-40; to Marion Co IA 1852-54. Mary had sisters?, Eliz. Cola, who married MALLICOATs, both s/o Dedmon, of Grainger Co.

randy, that was info overload. I didn't have the stmina to read it all, but found family there. I have some different inf. Claiborn Acuff, b. 9 Nov 1835, died 19 FEb 1921, was married to Amanda Kitts, b. DEc 5, 1835, died 20 FEb 1929--they were married dec 2 1856 in grainger Co. Tn.
I have family letters and newspaper clipping about Mandy Acuff as she was called--gg grandparents. we are decended through their son Isaac, Acuff, b. 7 Feb 1864, married to Harriet Lay. What I don't know for sure is Claiborns parents--I belive (from family records) that his father was Benjamin, son of John and Nancy watson Acuff, but I don't have a clue who his mother was. I love doing genealogy but sometimes it make my brain hurt...A lot of my information has come from the generous sharing of gedcom files by other Acuff relations as well as the Family Tree Maker's Acuff line off one of their CD's. Since you had specific information about Claiborn and Kitty, I went to enter it and my genealogy program informed me that if Claiborn was born in 1835 vs the abt 1807 currently listed for him that his Mother Patsy (Martha) Hailey born in abt 1780 would have been 55 years old when Claiborn came into this world. I believe that your information is correct, but am going to have to figure out what is inaccurate in mine. I have a line back a few generations from Claiborn if you want it. There are possible changes in the works to that one also. There are so many people doing genealogy now that better information is coming to light all of the time from lots of different sources. I can give you that also so you can decide for yourself. The bad news is that what was thought to be correct is not and requires correcting. The good news is that the lines are becoming more accurate. Am going to have to take some time to figure things out again in the Acuff line... Thanks for the info and taking the time to write. Let me know if you want the info mentioned above.
