I'm trying to find info on my grandfather Michael Acompora. He died in 1946 at 40 y/o in New York. I think I found his parents, John & Mary & siblings-Paul,Albert,Antoinette, Tessie Mary, Carmelle & Jennie but the last name is slightly different. My father's name was John James Acompora & my grandmother was Lucia Mangiocapra. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Surnames: Acampora
Possible: John and Mary Acampora living at 306 Pleasant Ave, Manhattan (this is up in "Spanish Harlem" in an area which used to be heavily Italian. in the 1920 census. Children Paul (19), Albert (17), Michael (13), Antoinette (10), Tessie (9), Mary (7), Carmella (6), Jennie (4)
John immigrated 1896, Mary immigrated 1899 Both born in Italy. John's occupation listed as Bricklayer's helper

There are a lot of Acamporas in the area around Naples and Sorrento and a lot of Acamporas here from that area. I think this family may link up with mine, but I'm not sure.

Are you sure about Michael's parents? Could he have been the son of Vincenzo and Angelina Acampora? - on the 1930 census as living in the Bronx. Michael born about 1907. sibs Camelia, Camella, Anna, Ida, William, and Mario. Living at 3307 Beaumont Ave. in the Bronx.

Death certificate #27620 Manhattan. Michael Acompora age 40 Died Dec 26, 1946.

The death certificate may have parents and more information. It may even help me with my Acamporas.

Also Marriage Cert. Manhattan #4052 married Feb 4, 1934 Michael Ocompora (that's how it's indexed) and Lucy Mangiocapra

I got the information above from the italiangen.org website.

If you want to know how to get the actual certificate, let me know. Also I go to the Municipal Archives periodically and can look for it at some point.

It may connect back to my Acampora family.

Thank you for the help. I spoke to a relative last night and yes, I have the right family. My father was named after his grandfather (John) and his oldest sister Marie was named after Mary. And I found out my great-aunt Carmelle died not long after my father and my great-aunt Jean passed away like 4 years ago. I forgot I met great-aunt Jean in 99 at my father's funeral. I was told because the family was so big, no one kept in touch. It's just sad because most of them have passed on so now I'm hoping to find living cousins.
