I have oral history that says Augustus is not actually an Abbott but rather a Thomas. He at an early age was given to the Abdon & Angeline (Bolster) Abbott family by his family, probably the father. Story says mother ran off leaving the family. He, Augustus, then assumed the family name of the Abbotts. I cannot find any information that confirms this. Anyone know anything about this mystery??
