Hello Nancy, My great aunt married an Abadie in Berkekey, California around 1907-8. They had a son and a daughter and were divorced after two or three years of marriage. His first name could have been James. If you'd like to know more (I don't have a lot) please e-mail me. Barbara Fussmann (in Germany) bfussmann@t-online.de

Abadie family in Louisiana
Dear Barbara, I am researching Abadie/Fontenot families with roots in Louisiana in the New Orleans/ Baton Rouge areas. Please read the other messages I have posted. Can you share your Abadie information with me? Sincerely, Rosie Wells Birmingham, AL edselw@yahoo.com

Hi. There is a pre-1900 Abadie on at least one of the links at San Francisco County. I haven't pursued it, as my great aunt was married to an Abadie just long enough to have two of his children. Their names were Eleanor and Fletcher and their mother's name was Ethel (maiden name Sims). This all took place in Berkeley, CA around 1910. Eleanor and Ethel died several years ago and I assume Fletcher is dead too. There's a Fletcher Abadie listed under the Social Security Death Index - he died in FLA. I don't know if this is our Fletcher, but it is an uncommon name. You might try looking into that. I don't know if Fletcher had children. Good luck in your research. Barbara in Berlin

Get in touch with me. I am doing the Abadie genealogy of Francois who was from France, married Celine Faucheaux in 1855. They raised 10 children, one of which was Eugene Olide Abadie, my grandfather. A. J. Abadie knows me.
Have a good day.

JL Powers,
It was nice to see another Abadie on the Message Board. Began this message board in December of 1999 after the death of my father to find out more about his family. My father was Edward Harry Abadie, Jr. and died on December 19, 1999 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was born in New Orleans on November 19, 1912. His father, Edward H. Abadie, Sr. was born also in New Orleans on April 14, 1889 and died in Chicago on October 18, 1955. He was married in New Orleans to Leontine Fontenot (french- Fontoneaux)My father was raised by the Fontenot family with their 10 children in Reserve, LA. Leontine was a twin to Leona and was born on Sept. 10, 1888 and died in Chicago on June 14, 1954. My ggrandfather was Adolphe Abadie and he was married to Josephine Burns on Feb. 19, 1880. They had two children, one my grandfather, Edward, Sr. and the other's name was August. This is all I have been able to find on my father's family. Am trying to find any additional information from other Abadie Family Members. In hunting for more information I found two Abadies in the Third Ward of St. John the Baptist Parish, LA 1880 Census: One was Leon Abadie, single, 23 yrs. old and a blacksmith. The other was a Fancois Abadie, 58 yrs old, Born in France and a Merchant. Under his name was his wife Celina, 40 yrs. and his children: Evilina, 17 yrs., Francois, Jr. 15 yrs., Olide, 11 and Oliver 11yrs., Leon 6 yrs., Fortune 4 yrs., and Rene l-l/2 yrs. My father had mentioned at one time that his family originated from Bordeaux, France, but I never knew whether it was the Abadie or Fontenot Family. I would appreciate hearing from you about any information you might have. If I can be of help, please E-Mail me. Thanks. Katherine Abadie Heichler

Hello,
Have been searching Abadie Family Information since the message board started. Glad to see you are working on it too. My father, Edward H. Abadie said his family went back to Bordeaux, France but have not been able to get past my grandfather, Edward H. Abadie, Sr. except that my ggrandfather's name was Adolphe Abadie and he married a Mrs. Josephine Burns in February of 1880. Another line I have is Schexnayder. Yesterday I received an E-Mail from Jay Schexnaydre who said he was not an Abadie decendant, however has several collateral lines that tie into the Abadie Family. This is the information he sent to me and I noticed it had your Eugene Olide Abadie in it so here is what he sent: Marie Celanie Abadie m. Louis Benjamin (Boo-shoot)Hymel. Children Noemie, Lelia, Bertha, Dennis, Anita, Wilz, Regine, Eugenie, Maurice, James and Martha Hymel. Marie Celanie's brother was Eugene Olide Abadie m. Mathilde Marguerite Songy. Children: Alice, Benoit, Raymond, Theresa, Ferdinand, Amede, Wallace, Zeolide Catherine, Simone, Georgine, Eunice, Robert and Lester Abadie. Eugene Olide' and Celine's other brother Andre Francois Abadie m. Zulma Madeleine Tregre. Children: Agnes, Amelia, Mary Lucy, Louis, Elodie Jeanne, Laura Madeleine, Andre, Faustin, Ozane Edward, Leon Richard Antoine Abadie. If you already have all of this information, can you tell me if it is what you have too. If not I hope this helps.
Sincerely, Katherine Abadie Heichler
