WELL, IF YOUR DADS UNCLE WAS UNCLE UNDREA THAN MY GRANDFATHER FRANCES ABADIE WAS YOUR DADS UNCLE ALSO.:)UNCLE ANDREA WAS HIS BROTHER. ASK YOUR DAD ABOUT HIS AUNT WHO WAS A CATHOLIC NUN BY THE NAME OF AUNT SISTER LUCY. THATS WAS YOUR DADS AUNT.

Did your grandfather run the Reserve/Edgard ferry. If his name was Leon, he would be my grandfather's nephew.

Let's see, if this gets the ball rolling for you.

Hi Jeremy, So nice to hear from you. See your name often in connection with the Abadie family. My grand-father's name was Edward H. Abadie, and he was a carpenter. Although he was born in NO he married a Fontenot from Reserve. They were then married in NO. Was just in NO and Reserve in October still looking for his parents or any relatives. While driving up the River Road to Reserve saw many signs for a Dee Abadie for Parish President. Got out and took pictures of the signs and then was sent an article from the local paper that she became Parish President. Another woman wrote me about her new book about the River Road. Mary Gehman.
Was told there is an Abadie Street or Road right off the River Road but didn't find it.
Have connected with several new cousins on the Fontenot and Perilloux side but not a trace of the Abadie side. On another trip to NO a cousin took me on the same Ferry you are talking about from Reserve to Edgard. It was quite an experience. Wanted to see St. John the Baptist Church there. Took lots of pictures. It is just beautiful. Of course went into the Cemetery for a while and did find some Abadie names but not my grand father's father Adolph. The archives in Baton Rouge have no record of his death.
My grandfather and his wife are buried in Cook County IL.
His father Adolph is the man that has become such a brick wall. He was married to Josephine Burns Mallory in 1880 and that is it. No place of birth, date of birth or death date or place. Thank you for your thoughtfullness.

I don't believe we are in the same line of Abadies. My greatgrandfather arrived in the US from Campzan, France via Bordeaux in 1849 on the ship Amerika bound for New Orleans.
He settled in Wallace, La.

I know of some other Abadies on the river, but never could link them to my line.

Thanks again for the thought. Was always told all Abadies are related however I really don't know how they could be.
My Adolphe married Josephine who was from Natchez. Am beginning to wonder if he maybe didn't originate from MS.
It seems strange that he appears in not one census anywhere. Am now starting to work with the newly remodeled Family Research Center about 25 miles away.
When married he lived in NO. Josephine said he was deceased in 1897. The family story is that he was poisoned.
Why is there no death cert. then. Am going to start looking at court records of succession around that time. My father also said Abadie family related lived in the French Quarters when he was young.
Will just keep hunting.

I WAS SEARCHING THE WEB FOR THE LOCATION OF THE REASSIGNED HAM RADIO CALL SIGN THAT A FRIEND USED TO HAVE. MY NAME IS WALTER KOOY, I AM A RETIRED NUCLEAR ENGINEER/PSYCHOLOGIST. I MAY BE SOMEHOW CONNECTED TO THE ABADIES. IN 1956, I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN TOMALES CALIFORNIA. FLETCHER WORKED AT THE RCA RADIO STATION IN POINT REYES STATION, VERY NEAR THE COAST LINE. IT COMMUNICATED ALL THE OFFICIAL US RADIO TRAFFIC (CODE) EAST. I KNEW OF FLETCHER THROUGH HIS SON, ROLF, WHO WAS YEAR BEHIND ME IN SCHOOL. I WAS ABLE, THROUGH FLETCHER, OBTAIN A JOB AT THE RADIO STATION FOR THE SUMMER. IN JUNE OF THAT YEAR, THE SON ROLF DIED WHILE ON THE BEACH. HOW I DO NOT KNOW. I LODGED WITH THE ABADIES FOR THE SUMMER, BECOMING VERY CLOSE TO THEM, LIKE A SUBSTITUTE SON. THE WIFE WAS CALLED LILIAN. THEY HAD A YOUNGER DAUGHTER SALLY.
FLETCHER WAS A HAM RADIO OPERATOR AND MEMBER OF MARS. MILITARY AMATEUR RADIO SYSTEM. HE HAD BUILT A VERY POWERFUL STATION NEAR HIS HOME OF SOME 5000 WATTS POWER. HE WAS ABLE TO REACH ALL OVER THE WORLD WITH MORSE CODE.
FLETCHER STATRED HAM INTEREST IN SAN-FRANCISCO WITH A SPARK GAP TRANSMITTER. WHEN I STAYED WITH THEM, THERE WAS NO INTERNET, THE LARGE TRANSMITTING TUBES HUMMED WITH POWER WHEN HE TRANSMITTED. IN THE EVENING BOTH FLETCHEN AND LILLIAN WOULD BE IN THE LIVING ROOM READING AND LILIAN WOULD SAY, "FLETCHER, I THINK CHARLIE IS CALLING". CHARLIE WAS A RADIO FRIEND WHO WAS A RADIO OPERATOR ON A MERCHANT MARINE SHIP. SURE ENOUGH, WHEN FLETCHER KEYED ON CHARLIE WOULD BE ON AIR SOME WHERE EAST OF INDONESIA. LILIAN WAS VERY PSYCHIC. LATER IN TIME THEY MOVED TO EASTERN OREGON, REDMOND, AND I VISITED THERE OFTEN. I KNOW FLETCHER DIED BUT LILIAN MAY STILL BE LIVING. (IN A REST HOME MAYBE) THEY WERE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. SALLY MARRIED AND HAD A CHILD, BUT I REMEMBER A DIVORCE. IF THESE ARE THE RIGHT PEOPLE, I HOPE THIS SHEDS SOME LIGHT ON THEIR LIFE. DR. WALTER KOOY PhD
