As part of my research through naturalization records, I have come across the following name change:
Name: Alice Holm
Changed to: Alice Ahlstrom
Age: 26
Address: 36 E 72nd St, New York, NY
Certificate issued by US District Court at New York City
Date: 1/13/1944
Petition No. 457103
Alien Registration No: 3389943
Certificate of Identification: none

I have no other information but the above. I am hoping this may help someone who has encountered a dead end in their research.
Terri

Thank You for the information you sent. Sorry for the delay in replying. The trouble with finnish last names is that there is a last name Åhlström and also Ahlström so it's quite difficult to separate them sometimes. Thanks anyway.

Surnames: Ahlstrom
Nina,
My Ahlstrom ancestors came from Nykarleby Finland.
What is the difference in the two spellings of Ahlstrom? Is it a matter of pronounciation or meaning?

Hi Lori,

They are two different names and Ahlström means a different thing too Ahl is the old word for Al which is swedish for alder and Åhl is the old version of Ål which means an eel. ström meaning current as in a smallish stream of water.
Best wishes
Nina
