I have been looking at the German church records for the tiny village of Furna, Graubünden, in the 1800s.
I noticed that most, if not all, of the baptisms have 5 Godparents. Is that a common custom throughout the Swiss German churches? Did it often deviate from that?
I also noticed that in most cases, there were 3 men and 2 women for a male child and 2 men, 3 women for a female child. Was that also the custom. In some cases there were 3 women and 2 men for a male child.
Thank you,
