Hello, I am seeking information about Antonio Montero from La Coruña, Galicia, Spain. He may have been born sometime soon after 1900.

He may have had a sister who was a nun near La Coruña.

He was in the Merchant Marines. He had a son, Franklin, with a woman named Helen (her surname may have been Efta) in the United States.

He died around the late 1960s? in Spain.

grandmother was Josefa Vieiro and lived in Lorbe. If you
don't know that is a town over from Mera. The actual Vieiro

Hi, Juan, my grandfather German Franco emigrated to Cuba from Lugo, Spain (monforte de Lemos) with 2 brothers, Manuel and Ramon, and several cousins. Thank you so very very much. I can tell you that my father's mother and father were Josefa Suarez and Andres Vieiro. They were married in NY and had almost all their children in NY. My uncle Luis, died in the Spanish Civil War and my brother was named for him. Yes, they lived in Oleiros, the name Dorneda sounds very familiar. Since I don't know much about the area, when my family mentioned Breixo, I thought it was a town or area.

My father never spoke of the Vieiros, so I don't know much. He was 76 when he died in 1980. If it helps, Know he had a number of brothers and sisters. . I can tell you that one of my aunts was Josefa Vieiro. My uncle, Andres Vieiro retired and moved to Galicia...somewhere near Oleiros. I can tell you that he died in the 1980's and I assume that he would have been called Andres vieiro Suarez. Once he died, the name died because he was the last Vieiro living in the house my grandparents had lived in. I do appreciate the information. Can you tell me how I could write the appropriate parties.
I am trying to get my Spanish Citizenship since I want to pass that on to my son. Can I get the address so I can get information regarding my mothers birth information. She grew up in Mera, Mayanca, Oleiros. If I can get the address, I can write them.

I am trying to gather information regarding my paternal relatives. My father, Antonio Vieiro (spelled Bieyro in the US) was born in NYC, but my grandparents married in NY, hat all their children and then took them to live in Galica. They lived in LaCoruna, an area called Breixo. The siblings I know about are Andres, Luis (who died in the Spanish Civil War), Isabel and Josefa. I don't know of any others. I was told that my father's family was well to do and they often hired people to work for them. That's how my mother met my father. Anyone who can assist me in trying to find more information I would appreciate it. I will share what I have been able to find.

I was searching for your surnames here (I was born in Galicia even I am living in Madrid). I have achieved some results:
- Breixo is not a council but a "lugar".
Galicia is divided in 4 provinces, each of them is divided in "comarcas" (like a county), each of them is divided by "councils", each of them is divided in "parroquias" (the vincinity of each church) and each of them divided by "lugar" (small group of houses).
- You have 3 Breixos in La Coruña province.
Breixo in the Noia Council
Breixo also in the Oleiros Council (Dorneda parroquia)
Breixo in Trazo Council (Berreo parroquia)
In case you need birth/death registration, you must go to the Civil Register of La Coruña with this trace.

The Breixo which is really close to La Coruña city is Oleiros.
- I was looking at the "paginas blancas" (phone directory) and there are 4 persons with this name in La Coruña province:
1.-Roberto Vieiros Folla
2.- Maria Agueda Vieiros Lemos
3.- Manuel Vieiros Puga
4.- Manuel Pedro Barreira Vieiros

As you can see, you must know the complete name of your relatives. Here a complete name includes name, surname (father) and second surname (mother) otherwise, you will not find any document which could confirm your data, or it will be more difficult for you.
If you search in whole Spain you have 74 Vieiros. 3 of them are "Luis".
Anycase, you can be sure that this is a Galician surname. This is a Galician word that means small way or path.

If you have a second surname of any of your relatives, I can ask for the civil registration to the ministery at the civil register online (it is free, I only have to give them my IDnumber). with this date you can also have the name of the parents and the city where they live.

Hi,
First of all, the "parroquia" (church where he received his baptism and this is important here as most of the docs are at the church) is Freixido (Sagrado Corazón de Jesús de Freixido is the complete name of the parroquia).
Freixido belongs to Petin Council in the Ourense province. (Ourense is Orense in Galician language).
Here you have the council web http://www.petin.es/
Now I have to know which Civil Register it belongs to. I will find it in internet.

Then I believe the best idea is to obtain the Civil Registration of birth. I will try the Civil way if there is no result, I will call the priest there and he will search by his own at the archives of the church.
With his doc you will have the complete name and data of his mother.
As soon as I receive info, I will inform you

As a first step, I have ordered your Grand Uncle Civil Registration of Birth (online, it will be sent to my home).
I dont know if it will be possible as I must know the date of birth, but I invented it was 1916. If they are good people, for sure if possible, they will find out it.
It will help us a lot as there we will have the name of the parents and the most important, the concrete address of them. It is critical to know the "parroquia" (church) where they received the Baptism. If I know this data, I can ask for them at the church (directlyy with the priest)

Hello,
I was trying to know what kind of geographic name is "cubelina", and I found out there is a "Cubelina" in Ramiras Council in the Orense Province.
It is difficult to say if this is a "lugar" (small group of houses) or only a street (in this case a street as a way in the middle of the country). I believe that is a lugar and perhaps with a different name today as we use to use the Galician at the official documents (Perhaps Cuveliña or Coveliña). I believe that this lugar is located in the Vilamea "Parroquia" (church area) but I have to really be sure.
Any case, I believe that you have a good trace with Cubelina.
There is an official documentation of a legal problem with one company in Cubelinas, Ourense. This company belongs to Ramiras Council, Cubelina "lugar".

I was searching the surnames in this place:
- Nobody Montero Domingues
- 15 persons with Montero as first surname
- 5 with Montero as second
- Nobody with Domingues (but there are 24 with Dominguez)
In total Montero Dominguez in Ourense 2.
You have to know that Domingues is a Portuguese surname, in Spanish Dominguez. The marriage between Galician and Portuguese is very usual as they are very close.
I believe that the number of Montero we have in Ramiras is really high,so it is easy to accept that this is the council.

I have sent an email to the council of Ramiras, in order to ask for Cubelina lugar. Once you have this data it will be really really easy, as soon as they answer me, I will send you a message.

Where are you from? Only to know the information you could have about the law and geography here in Spain.
I was looking at the phone directories and I found out 2 Fernandez Maceiras (Genaro and Juan) in a couple of village only 7 or 8 km close to Mugardos. There are a total of 10 in La Coruña province (where is located Mugardos Council).

4 people have maceiras as first surname in Mugardos.
5 have maceiras a second surname there.

My advice is you should ask for the Civil Birth Registration of you Grandfather to the Civil Register of La Coruña. If you would like to do it I can help you, it is free and online.
With the data this document will contain, you will have the concrete address and church (parroquia) where your grand grand parents lived and this is the best trace to localice the rest of the family. The church will provide you the rest of the data. I could also help you calling the priest.

1. "Jesus Vazquez Ron"(in Spain) or "JV Ron" or "Jesus V. Ron" in the USA was born 26 or 29 of April 1885 in Fregido or Frexeido, Orense, Spain {in the northwestern part of Spain known as Galicia} per his Naturalization Papers. 2. In 1905 he emigrated from Spain as a single person according to the US Federal Census but my uncle , Jaime Ron, says his first trip was on 8 April 1907 and he came from Cuba on the ship, Principe August, to the port of New Orleans, LA and took a train to San Francisco, CA. After the April, 1906 earthquake there was much need for workers in San Francisco to rebuild the city.
3. Between 1907 and 1910, he worked as a mason in South San Francisco, CA.
4. Between 1910-1914, he moved to Shasta County, CA and lived in the mining town of White Horse near Redding, CA.
5. In 1913 he was natrualized.
6. 25 Feb 1914 he became a US Citizen.
7. In March, 1914 he returned to Spain.
8. 25 August 1914 in San Froilan, Lugo, Spain, he married Amadora Sanchez Nunez of Friol, Lugo, Spain.
9. 11 Sept. 1914 Jesus and Amadora arrive in New York City on the ship, Calabria, . He is listed as " Jesus Vascos Ron", residence -Friol, Spain, emigration- St. Michaels, age- 29- Source- New York Passenger Arrival Lists(Ellis Island) 1892-1924.
10. 1914-1920- He lives with his wife in White Horse, Shasta County, CA.
11. 26 Dec. 1915, his daughter, Auria Vazquez Ron AKA Auria Ron is born in Buckeye, Shasta, CA. She is my mother.
12. I know all of the later history.
HERE IS WHAT I NEED TO FIND OUT OR VERIFY.
1. Jesus Vazquez Ron was the son of Juan Manuel or Manuel Vazquez and Carmen Ron in Orense, Spain. Juan or Juan Manuel Vazquez was born before 1860 in Orense province of Spain. He married Carmen Ron about 1881 .
2. Carmen Ron is the person that I am trying to find more about. I do not know her second surname. She probably was born in Orense province of Spain about 1862. Who was her father ? Who was her mother?
******Was Carmen Ron the granddaughter of Estanislao de Ron y Caballero(born after 1774)of Asturias, Spain who was the son of Don Lope Benito de Ron Y Quepo de Llano and Dona Maria Del Carmen Caballeros Y Sierra?
****** I have a personal copy of the family published book on the history of the Ron family written in 1930 in Spain- LA CASA DE RON. It ends about 1800-1825 with a description of Estanislao de Ron y Caballero.
****** I also have a copy on parchment paper of the family tree of the Ron Family originally found in the local museum in Lugo, Spain in 1975 by my maternal Grandmother, Amadora .
3. Juan Manuel Vazquez and Carmen Ron had 4 children that I know of.
* Benigno Vazquez Ron was born about 1882 in Orense Province of Spain. He was very short in stature and visited Jesus in California 1917-1919 when he was age 35-37. I have a photo of them taken at this time. Benigno returned to Spain and I know nothing of what happened to him back in Spain.
* Higencio Vazquez Ron was born between 1883-1884 in Orense, Spain and emigrated to Argentina where he later died.
* Jesus Vazquez Ron was born in 1885. You already have his life listed above.
* Jose Maria Vazquez Ron was born in 1891 and by 1910 arrived at the age of 19 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He left Spain on the ship, Eisenbach. He married in Argentina and had twin children. He became very wealthy. He corresponded over 30 years with his brother, Jesus Vazquez Ron, in California.Jose Maria died in January 1951 and is buried in the La Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires, Argentina which I visited in Feb. 2005.

Is there anyone with a surname of "Ron" from Spain who had an ancestor who fought in the Spanish army under General Galvez during the American Revolutionary War ? I am searching for the family of the Spanish soldier with the surname of "Ron" who fought under Louisiana Governor, General Bernardo de Galvez, against the British at the Battle of Manchac at Fort Bute, now LA ( British West Florida in 1779) during the American Revolutionary War on the 7 of September 1779.
I have found a book listing the names of the Spanish soldiers who fought in this battle and one Spanish soldier is listed under the surname of "Ron" but with no first name. Author G. W. Hough in 2000 wrote the book, Spanish Patriots in the American Revolution. This is where I found the Spanish soldier's name .
On the 21 of June 1779 the Spanish King Charles III had declared war on Britain.
My maternal mother's surname is "Ron". Her family is from Lugo, Spain and Asturias.

Wow, I hope you will see this, you posted this some time ago. My grandmother was Nelida Mazaira-moved to Argentina and was originally from Galicia I believe. I have one of her rings and it is engraved Galicia Terra Miega-she married my grandfather Francisco Ferrari, and moved to the US I believe because he was in the Argentine Navy--AND his (my grandfather's) brother was a guard to the Vice President!? I remember my mother saying something about there being Garcia's in the family...Maybe we're on to something here? Hoping you write back...Alicia Ferrari

WOW! yes, we're from hershey! Oh my gosh, I cannot wait to see your family tree, I plan on visiting my abuelito frank on sunday to gather more information about the ferrari side of the family.

I'm not aware of any rule that said posts had to be in English.

I had to go through the process of translating the post for myself 'cos as admin I needed to know what you were saying, and figured others who don't speak Spanish would benefit from it, too.

Perhaps in future when you post you'd like to write in both Spanish and English? Then you're covering all bases. And your own translation would probably be better than the Babelfish's. :-)
