Vidal family, Sant Feliu de Guixol

Hi,
I am looking for information about my ancestor Sebastian Rafael Vincent Vidal who was born on the 10th december 1806 in Sant Feliu de Guixol. In 1838, he moved to France (Marseille), probably shortly after marrying his wife Carlotta Saenz. If anyone has access to the Sant Feliu de Guixol registries, I would be very curious to see the mariage certificate or entry for this couple. I have strong reasons to believe they were married shortly before leaving France and at any rate, given that Carlotta was born in 1816, probably after 1834 (1832 max). Anyhow, all help welcome!
Muchas gracias,
Frederic.

Antonio Casanova died in Los Angeles, California in April, 1850, age 50 [1850 US Census Mortality Schedule]. Lyman Platt says he was from "San Féliz de Quixols" in Cataluña [Spanish-American Surname Histories]. Baptismal records from Costa Rica say his parents were Juan Casanova and his wife, Margarita [NARA microfilm publication SJ-143 item 2, CB#29, F.385, A.473]. His wife was Trinidad Pino Fuentes from either Caracas or Maracaibo, Venezuela.

I am looking for any records of Antonio Casanova in Cataluña. Any help greatly appreciated.

Susan,

First, I must thank you for your generous act of kindness and service in looking for my 3X-ggf, Antonio Casanova, in Sant Feliu. I will be sure to "pay the favor forward", as we all do at times.

Certainly, this is a disappointment, in the sense that the information from Platt is, apparently, incorrect; but it is heartening to know that the area has been searched, even if it produced negative results.

It is entirely possible that Platt was referring to the origin of the family, or that he had the area wrong, or even that he was simply wrong. I do know, however, that, in a baptismal record from Costa Rica, Antonio Casanova, the father, is said to be "natural de Cataluña", so I must keep looking.

Thanks again, and best wishes, Lawrence

Hello:
I was at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City today and I happened to be doing research for a client in the parishes located in Gerona. Since I already had film #1171877 out. I figured that I could do a little act of service and look for your Antonio Casanova b. 1800 in Sn. Feliu, but to no avail. I looked from 1795-1801 and there is no listing. Nothing for a CASANOVA family at all.
It is possible that Mr. Platt was referring to the family's origin, rather than to Antonio CASANOVA in particular in the source you referenced. What do you think?
Glad you are doing so well in your search.
I can't spend a lot of time on it, but I like to help where I can.
I just don't like to bombard people with info they've already found. Sometimes it takes us awhile to get around to all the queries posted on the boards.

Looks like you've got a great start. Remember that the Civil Register is a great source of info. It began in about 1870 for most areas (so you won't get a lot of info for people before that date, but it's great for 1870 to the present. You just need to provide them all that you do know so that they can find you the proper document (birth, marriage, death). The service has no fee. It is a good idea to inquire in Spanish wherever possible.

Oh - and do not overlook valuable church records. The Spanish records are wonderful. They often contain up to 3 generations of information (particularly for birth/baptisms) and the death records can contain a wealth of information about the descedent and their family members.

Good luck to you and feel free to contact me with questions you may have!

Susan

Hello Susan,

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have been researching my friend's family and have found out quite a lot.

I have the cemetery in Barcelona where his mother and other relatives were buried.

I have taken photo's of the houses where his relatives were brought up, and the school which he attended.

I have discovered the National Archive in Barcelona, although this was at about 1pm on a Saturday when it was just about to close - BUT, I now know where it is.

I have found a lady of 80 years old who was brought up as a family member.

I come over to Barcelona about 6 times a year and I will hopefully make more progress next year. - My next visit will be approx April, 2007.

I am very grateful for your offer of help. - I appreciate that , as you are a profesional researcher, you would not be able to spend too much time on this, but perhaps when I come again next year, if I have any queries, I could ask for your advice?

Many thanks again for your message.

Dea

I don't have much info on Piera, hence this posting. Gertrudis Piera is at the end of my tree, she married Jose Bujons, somewhere in Spain, most likely Catalonia. I don't have dates for any of them. They had a daugher named Rosa Bujons in 1812 who married Jose Enrich, born in 1802 in Espulgas de Llobegat, Catalonia, Spain. And the list keeps going, mostly in Catalonia, Spain. So as you can tell I don't even have much. I believe the last name is pretty unique. I was once recommended to contact the Archivo Histórico del Obispado de Barcelona, where the books from all the churches were kept after some archives in churches were burnt in 1936-1939. If intact they could reach back up to the 16th century. Hope this is helpful and let me know if you find more.

Hello,

I am looking for information on the Garriga family from the town of La Garriga which is just North of Barcelona.

My ggg-grandfather was Don Juan Jose Mario Garriga. His son, my gg-grandfather, was Juan Marco Garriga and was born in April 1870 in Spain.

All I know is that some of this family, including Juan Marco, immigrated to Cuba where they set up a barber shop and pharmaceutical business. Juan Marco then immigrated to the US as a child and as an adult, made several trips back and forth between Cuba and the US to oversee family interests there. Juan Marco died at sea during one of these trips

I am told that there are still Garriga's in the town of La Garriga. The Garriga surname is not common so I would love to get in contact of any Garriga's still living in Spain to see if we are related.

Thank you,

Jill

James Pedro Pecan was an ancestor of a good friend of mine. I'm helping her organize all the information she has on her family tree and wonder if you have uncovered any new information on him. It's possible you have communicated with her in the past.

I am sorry that I do not write in Spanish very well. Mu Grandfather was Salvador Piera and came to the US near the beginning of the Spanish American War. I know that he grew up in Barcelona or Valencia and may had brothers, however he never kept in contact with them

I hope that the name may sound familiar.
