Hello:

My mom's grandfather was born in Santander or Valle de Cayon, Spain in the 1840's. His name was Serafin Colsa Diego and left Spain when he was around 15 years old and ended up in Texas and later at about 20-25 years old migrated to eastern Sonora, Mexico. He apparently had a brother named Antonio Colsa who was a priest and two aunts named Valbina and Araceli who probably born in the 1800's. If anyone can help me find any relatives of my great-grandfather I'd appreciate it.

David,

My name is Carlos Silva Colsa, son of Fca. Alicia (Panchita') Colsa de Silva and Fco. Jose Silva. Both of my parents were born in Batuc, Sonora. My mom's dad was Casimiro Colsa Molina who was the oldest brother to your grandmother Juanita Colsa. I met your grandmother a long time ago and knew all of the siblings.....Serafin (tio Cota), Esperanza, tia Bebita' (can't remember her actual name). Anyhow, my grandmother Maria Molina de Colsa (my mothers' mother) was married to Casimiro and she is still alive and lives with my aunt Norma Colsa in Hermosillo.

I know Batuc very well because my parents would take us to Mexico every year during Christmas and New Years. I would spend most of my time in Villa Pesqueira (Matape), Sonora so I would go to Batuc, San Jose de Batuc (La Colonia), San Pedro and some of the other towns in the area. I am now married and have 4 children and live in the Sacramento, CA area. I am 38 years old and have two siblings. I was born and raised in northern California but do know Spanish and love the music from the small towns of the Sonoran Sierra called "Orquestas". I don't go to Mexico as often as I'd like to because of my job and my childrens' education but I would like to go very soon.

How old are you? Where do you live? Your mom and my mom are first cousins (primas hermanas) which means that you and I are second cousins (primos segundos). I don't think we have ever met but it would be nice.

Muchas gracias por el contacto. Mandame resquesta aqui o a mi correo electronico que es csilva_31@yahoo.com

Saludos,

Carlos Silva Colsa

And my granny was from Batuc, Sonora as well. I see you live in Spain, I am living in Cork, Ireland. What a coincidence. I am looking for my roots and I am delighted I found you. Sorry David, is your mother by any chance a Doctor. I remember when I was three. My mom brought me to her as I had a bad infection in one of my fingers and that was going to be amputated. Your mom (I think is the same person) told my mum to cure me with "Batamote" and take the prescribed medication as in the "Seguro Social" they were nearly amputating my poor little hand. Thanks to your mom, I can now type this mesage with all my fingers. I met your Granny as well, my granny used to bring me there in the evenings para tomar el cafecito.

Saludos,

Patricia Gamez Garcia
