My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Paula Antonia Villanueva. Her Mother was Juana Colon (don't know her maiden name). I am not sure of her biological father's name but she had a brother (William Fernandez Villanueva) and a sister (Ramona Villanueva. As far as I was told, they all, were born in Arecibo, PR between 1929-1936 (possibly later). I'm not sure if this helps at all, but it would be nice to know if we have other relatives out there.

Hi Scott and thanks for the valuable information. I am probably descendent of one of the brothers of Jose María who came to Perú. My Grandfather was Jose Angel Tresierra Arteta and his father was José Gabriel Tresierra Cáceres married to Primitiva Arteta. I have a picture of Agustina Sáenz de Arteta who was Mother or Grandmother of Primitiva, the picture is really old and has a handwritten dedication on its back. Do you know the names of José María's brothers?
I have information about the Tresierras in Perú who settled in the Cuzco region and later migrated to Trujillo which I will be glad to share. Today there are Tresierras in Cuzco, Trujillo and Lima in Perú. My cousin Margarita Cárdenas Tresierra migrated to Canada about 20 years ago and now lives near Toronto.

great to hear from you, my great grandpaternts also were on the willesden. My grandfather served in the spanish army for 12 years. Both sdies of my family left spain so my uncles would not be drafted. Interesting fact is that those who were drafted fought at the battle of Annuel where the entire spanish army was wiped out.

If you are on facebook lets friend, I am a lefty like my ancestors. Take a look at my Facebook page called Hawaiian spaniards. My great grandparents were all from southern spain, Villa martin, cadiz, San Roque and Gaucin. My father was born at Ewa Mill hawaii, my mother in Oakland.

I am retired Director of Organizng for the Carpenters Union and a member of Piledrivers local 34. i am currently chairman of the Archie Green fund for labor Culture and on the Advsiory Board of the Sf state labor archive. My name is Andrew Casemore and I have traced my tree back as far as William Oldham and Luisa Alvarez. I was wondering if any success had been had in finding documentation regarding them or their children.

My connection goes back through my paternal grandmother Phyllis Casemore born Hounsell, 23 /01/1920. Her father was Herbert Leslie Claude Alvarez Staverdale-Hounsell born 03/05/1887. His mother was Louise Evelyn Oldham Briggs born 28/12/1863 in Islington and her mother would have been Louisa Annette Oldham born about 1837. Her mother was Luisa Alvarez born about 1797 and died 08/02/1854 in Surrey.

I am looking for my great grandfathers sister. It is my hope that if I could connect with family we may learn more. Her parents were Ana Lara Madueno and Andres Galvan Mellado. Margarita was born Sept 28, 1883. I have been told that she moved to Morocco. Ana Lara Madueno is recorded as dying in Benahavis, Spain. A witness to her death was Felix Lara Gomez. I have many more family members names going back in history... but thought this would be helpful.

All four of my gandparents (and two great-grandparents) immigrated to Hawaii from Spain. All came on the Willesden in 1911. My father was born in Hawaii and my mother was born in California. My paternal grandfather, a native of Algodonales, Cadiz, deserted the Spanish army after serving two years in North Africa and made his way to Gibraltar. My maternal grandfather left his native town of Guadix, Granada in order to escape the army draft. My father's mother was born in Linares, Jaen and sailed on the Willisden with her mother and brothers, her father having died and left the family impoverished due to gambling debts. My mother's mother was born in Estepona, Malaga and sailed with her parents and siblings. My mother's family settled in the Sacramento River Delta region and my father's family eventually settled in Concord where I grew up. Where are you located? Would love to trade stories with you. I am a retired college history teacher and now live near Grass Valley, California. Best wishes

Ooops! Sorry Luis I meant the Harpalien and NOT the Heliopolis for my Grandfather and grandmother (Maternal) in 1912. Just like your family. My father came over on the ORTERIC in 1911 to Honolulu. Everybody eventually came to California from there. By 1920 they were all in the SF Bay area!

I would love to purchase a copy of your book when you are finished! I forgot to mention that my mothers family arrived on the Heliopolis in 1912 and could very well have known your parents. My grandfather Jose Quiles Mora from Almoradi (Alicante) and my grandmother Teresa Cortes Serrano Penarroya-pueblosnuevo (Cordoba) met on the ship and were married in Hawaii. Hawaii did not suit their health very well so they left for San Francisco and within 5 years were all in California. They became East Bay Farmers in the Decoto (Union CIty) area and raised a large family of Espanoles!

Thank you for responding and sorry for the delay in answering! I was born in Hayward and grew up in Alvarado (Union City). I moved to rural Tracy to get out of the SF Bay Area and be closer to work in Livermore. My father Joe and his brothers Chris and Frank came to Honolulu in 1911 and worked on Maui before moving to California. My uncle Chris Perez lived in Mountain View with wife Maria Gonzales and children while uncle Frank lived in Alvarado like my father. They were from San Martin del Tessorillo (Cadiz) and Casares (Malaga). My mothers family are from the Alicante region and Cordoba regions of Spain. I can give you more details if you wish! I've been to Espana twice now to visit with cousins. My great aunt Josephine married Diego Contreras from ESTEPONA!

Joe We used to visit family in 40's and 50's in Tracey, Antioch Stocton etc. My mother and her family Josefa Gil and her husband Jose Gil de Garcia were from Estepona. Have you been there? They moved to Sabinilla where my mom met my dad as children. His name was Manuel Martin de Ortega.It took them a week to travel a few miles to Gibralter to catch
the ship Harpalien in Feb. 1912. they traveled to Cuba where a family member child (Gil)side was diagnosed with TB and her family got off in Sao Paolo Brazil before going around South America to HawaiiThey arrived in Mauii on April 19,1912. They were literally slaves(indentured)and they and most of the ship hated Hawaii and worked hard to get off the island. My dad was arrested for manslaughter and a young teen, his mom was beaten by security on the plantation because she was ill and my dad stopped them which caused an accident. The family was moved to Oahu where my grandfather and dad worked at the Kahuku sugar mill.My mom and dad were married in 1916 in the little Catholic Church in Wailua. They had four children before my mom saved enough for passage to San Fran. From there famill members split some went to the San Leandro area and mine went to Santa Clara by the university before moving to Mountain View and settling. I played BB at the Tracey tourney in the 50s. There is so much more like Sociadad de Cervantes.We had a huge SPanish American club. all fo now Adios Luis Martin de Gil I traveld back to Spain Cordoba, Coin Sevilla and Estepona

My name is Robert Rodrigues(z). My family came to Hawaii on the Heliopolis in 1907. There were from Deifontes, Granada. I have visited my family there many, many times. My grandfather's Mother's family name was Garcia. I assume from Deifontes as well. My Grandmother was Amador Fernandez from Almeria. Garcia and Fernandez are such common names so I cannot tell you if we are related in some way. Good luck in writing you book. The passenger list for the heliopolis is posted on the internet.

All came via HAWAII!!! and eventually settled in San Francisco and then the east bay area. DECOTO, ALVARADO (now Union CIty).

Spanish ship manifest search

I am seeking help on how or where to secure ship manifests to locate info on my 4th great grandfather who traveled from Spain in the mid to late 1700s. He was from the Andalucia area possibly Jaen or Granada and settled near Aguascalientes Mexico.
Previously thought him to be part of the Catalonian Volunteers but learned they were primarily from Barcelona.

I am also descendant of the same person, I hove an investigatio I ordere from a geneologist in Spain with all descendants back to Ireland. Initial name was Murphy, change to Morphy possibly due to the difficulty of pronouncing Murphy. The first one to imigrate to Spain due to the religious war in Ireland was a lawyer and established in Malaga. If tou are interested I can send you the details of the story, know that there is a Count Morphy in Spain that lives in Madrid. I need your emails to send you the documents.

My great grandmother's name was Mary/Maria Miranda/Perriera DOB 7-4-1892 Portugal - DOD 3-5-1948 California Her and my great grandfather Antonio Sanchez met and married in Hawaii, Had a set of twins in Hawaii in 1917 and the somewhere between 1917 and 1919 when my grandmother was born they moved on to california. they settled in the campbell area. I have found that my great grandfather and a brother and sister Jose and Ana that also came to Hawaii on the Willesden but I can find nothing else about them. Not sure if they stayed in Hawaii or moved on somewhere else. Thank you for your help!
