The Tharsis
Sulphur and
Copper Company was a major employer both at its copperworks in Garngad in the Dennistoun district of
Glasgow and also at its copper mines at Tharsis in Andalucia, Spain.
"The
Mines of Tharsis" by S G Checkland was published in 1967 because the Company's records were donated to the archives of
Glasgow University. The book gives an excellent account of this significant economic activity during the industrial revolution.
