According to an earlier family researcher (now deceased), my ancestor Charles (baptized Carlos) Hollinger/Holliger was born at sea and baptized in
Cadiz, Spain when they made land. His father, Jacob, was a
Swiss mercenary fighting with the British DeWatteville regiment and his mother, Teresa Policere(one of many spellings)was a Sicilian he met during the Napoleanic campaign there. According to this researcher: "they put back the boat into
Cadiz, Spain and 'Carlos' was baptized. God parents were the Commanding
Officer and two fellow Sergeants. It was dated March 11, 1812."
Anyone have any idea where I might be able to find a copy of this? Would there have been one Catholic church in
Cadiz at that time? Although I live in So
California, I stupidly took
Latin in school (many years ago) instead of
Spanish and I'm afraid I don't know where to start. I'd appreciate any help or guidance. I posted this on the general forum for Spain also. I will be checking both for responses. Thanks!
