Thanks for the rapid response.
Antonio would be my Grandfather, he had two children, Stephen (My dad) and Marquiata (which goes by Maria).
I remember Jack, who has passed away, and his wife Rose, who also is now passed away. They also lived in NY. Jack has a son, Jack that we stay in touch with. He lives in central Florida. He is married, 3 kids, all grown.
Marquita (Antonio's daughter), married Manual Lopez, is now a widow, with 2 kids, are also grown.
please email me at tony.canton77@gmail.com
I also have pictures of Antonio in his older age, with my father.
He was fairly tall, about 5'9" to 6'1" and thin.
Please email me what you got, and I'll find some old pictures and do the same.
It's great if this works out. I've always wondered about the Canton Family.
Sincerely-
Tony

Hello Anthony, Glad to hear from you. My father Manuel Canton had 2 brothers, Antonio and Jauquin (Jack) and a sister, Maria. They were all born in born in Alhama de Almeria, Andalucía, Spain. My father and his 2 brothers immigrated to the United States at different times in the 20's. I have a picture of Antonio's 1st wedding. If you have an e-mail address I can send it to you. If you have a picture of him you can compare to see if we are talking about the same person. I would be very excited to get any information about the family you may have. Thank you.

Hello. I am in the beginning stages of researching my family.
My Grandfather was also from Alhama de Almeria, Andalucia, Spain. I bleive his name may have been Antonio. He passed away when I was young. Mid to late 70's. He had a brother, Jack, I believe.
He had two children. Stephen and Mariguiata. I know little about my Grandfather, other than he was married twice, and had immigrated to the United States, New York, around the 20's.
I can find out additional information if you'd like.

Gracias

Its pretty hard to look in the 1940 census by individual name and if he was born in 1931 and came later to the USA as a student then you may be thinking 1950 census. Other than that you may want to search immigration records. Did your grandmother Huele come to to the USA or were they married in Spain or another country? Good luck.

I have a copy of my grandfather's birth certificate (dated in 1950) from Cuevas del Almanthora. His parents are Antonio Garcia Lopeth and Antonia Galera Martinez. My grandfather was born in 1897 (according to the certificate), although when he emigrated to this country, he told everyone he was born in 1905. Antonia died in 1953 in Hospitalet de Llobregat in Barcelona. Was she from this region (Almeria)? Family lore has it that Antonio was in the military and spent time in Morocco. Am I correct in assuming that we would spell "Lopeth" as "Lopez" today?
Sharon Garcia Bailey

Does anyone have any information about this family?
I am trying to locate my Collazo family. I'm desperately looking for some help in locating my grandfather Juan Collazo BarPortla (born 1870) and his family. The family was force to flee Spain in one of their revolutions about 1880. Juan, his five brothers and sister were orphaned as a result of the fighting. Juan's father was a Spanish Consular diplomat posted in Portugal. The children were all sent to Puerto Rico as a safe heaven. My grandfather Juan was born in 1870 and was about five years old when they left Spain. Supposedly, they live in Cadaques and Barcelona Spain and sailed from Barcelona to PR. I have no records of who his siblings were and where they lived in PR. Juan I think live in Ponce, but some of the family lived in Utuado(?).I would greatly appreciate any information available from any of the Collazo descendance scattered all over the world.
Robert
robertwilson09@att.net

Borge Rohde death somewhere in Spain after 1956 [maybe by 1985]

We seek death information for a Danish citizen named Captain Borge Rohde who lived somewhere in Spain after 1954 with his new wife, Ebba Elisabeth Friis Henningsen. Unfortunately, we do not know where he lived, and this has severely slowed us in our search, so we are posting this message on several Spanish boards. He was born in the 1890s in Copenhagen as Borge Tegner, but was adopted by a Hermann Rohde, hence the last name. He was formerly married to Ambassador to Denmark Ruth Bryan Owen Rohde, but she died in 1954, and he remarried. Any help would be appreciated. We don't know when the wife, Ebba, died either, and would appreciate having that info if it were available.

Jeanne
Addendum to my previous e-mail on searching for Molina in El Chive de Lubrin, Almeria, Spain: There is some indication that Lubrin and area was the patrimony of the Marques del Carpio (10/20/1559) and Lubrin was created as a village by him under the crown's authority and help-- circa 1578. It was the estate of the Marquis del Carpio and the Dukes of Alba (by marriage).
The Marquis was: Diego lopen de Haro y Hurtado Mendoza, 1. senor de Sorbas y Lobrin (I think it's a misspelling of Lubrin). the snippet says... " en el reino de Granada, que troco con las villas de El Buso y de Revilla,... etc. he married Dona Leonor de Ayala, hija de Pedro Lopez de Ayala, conde de Fuensalida, and an ambassador to the king who was given many preferences. The Ayalas were of Jewish blood, but had converted in about the 10th or 11th century and were primarily based in Aragon or in Basque land. And that's where there is the "Jewish" connection- however tenuous. And as it happens, I am also related to the Ayalas from my mother side via Mexico.

Re: FAMILY GENEALOGY SEARCH

No luck, but got a good map of the area, which explains why my grandmother died in childbirth. Father was born in El Chive, which is close (about 5 miles) to Lubrin, and that's what is shown on his birth certificate. His father was Pedro Molina Munoz, but since I just returned to this task, there's not too much to found right now. I did find out that all the last names I have been looking for: Molina, Martinez, Munoz, Cortes, and probably Perales are all Sephardic names. That leads me to conclude that when the Reyes Catolicos (Catholic kings) mandated that the Jews leave Spain, some of the nobility (who were probably Jewish themselves) created places for villages of "conversos," aka in the US as "crypto Jews," who have been identified in New Mexico through DNA studies. I believe El Chive and many villages in Almeria were such villages, with the help of the crown. El Chive was not founded until 1587-- long after the order for expulsion. There is one theory of C. Columbus voyage occurred to find a new place for the conversos. Archeologists in New Mexico have found grave sites with the Star of David, and other artifacts that seems to suggest this might be true. The identity with Jews and BRAC gene (breast cancer) is being done, and I even found a web site that traces "Jewish" DNA. I surmise from the research I have done that some villages in Almeria were "founded" with the help of the Crown to place those who converted. Why? because after the Jews left, it left Spain very depopulated (but this may be true because of the colonists needed for the Americas). Those who stayed in El Chive and adjoining towns, were able to work at that time. There were coal and marble mines nearby, and that would have provided a base and need for workers. One site claims that Lubrin at one time had a population of 8,000 and currently it is 1700, which indicates a large population outflow for migration. It says that until the 1940s most emigrants went to the USA, but in the 1960s people from that area emigrated to Cataluna, and again in the 1960s the marble mines opened up and employed up to 500 people. So there you are. I'll have to go there to look stuff up at the church. My brother tried to do that, but all he did was take photos of those with Molina surnames in the Chive cemetary. That's no help. Still looking.....

Cool, Here's a little history I found on the web regarding Ernesto's father. The Reverend Francisco Mellado Meza was the youngest son of Nestor Mellado and Jacinta Meza. He was born in Panuco, Veracruz in October 1870. His mother died when he was 18 months old and his father died when he was 3 years old. He was raised by an aunt and later became a Presbyterian minister. He married Galdina Botello in May, 1893. They had five children Berta, Elvira, Ernesto Napoleon(Francisco) and one more. Francisco was my grandfather, but we called him Panchito. Good luck.
