About 10 years ago I read a great Aguirre book at a library in New Mexico or Texas.

In it, my family was traced back to Aranaz, Spain to Pedro de Aguirre in the 1670's. I have been able to confirm all of my ancestory in the book except for one link.

My research stops at Bartolome de Aguirre (born circa 1744) who was with his wife Andrea Colomo in the Julimes / Aldama area of Chihuahua, Mexico in the 1760's.
I can find no information to show that he is the son of Juan Miguel de Aguirre and Rosalia Rodriguez as the book says.

I have found the baptisms of Bartolome's siblings (born 1736-1761 in Chihuahua) (the years 1743 & 1744 were missing) which were mentioned in the book, but I haven't found his information that would tell who his parents are.

I have been searching for a long time with no luck, I could really use some help. Thank you.

HI,
My husband is an Aguirre and his roots are deep in Mexico also. We have been unable to trace his fathers family and I am hopeing that maybe you might have a link. His name was Maximo Aguirre, he married Sarah Barron (Baron?)Gardeau from Union, New Mexico. Some of the family names are: Bartola, Ramon, David Jesus, Anacleto, Fugunda (sp), Maria, Lydia Aguirre. I do know that his mothers name was Bartola. Any of these names sound familiar? Linda

My Dear cousin Andrew,

I caught your post and was delighted to read it. I haven't checked out the message board in quite some time, hope your still tuned in. I have the information that you are looking for, I am Aguirre through my fathers mother Maximina Aguirre.

Maximina Aguirre is a direct descendant of Juan Joseph Aguirre Orio, brother to Juan Miguel Aguirre Orio. Juan Joseph Aguirre was born in 1717 San Felipe de Real (Chihuahua) mexico and died 1767 San Bartolome, Chihuahua, Mexico. Juan Joseph was married to Juana Diaz, I have no particulars on her.

Juan Miguel Aguirre is the son of Captian Joseph Aguirre Sagardia who is the "Patriarch of the Aguirre's of Chihuahua." Thru him all Aguirre's of Chihuahua descend, thru his four sons Juan Joseph, Juan Miguel, Isidro Manuel and Agustin Francisco.

Captain Joseph Aguirre Sagardia was born 1687, in Aranaz, Navarro, Spain. The Aguirre's are Basque people. Joseph Aguirre Sagardia died 1728 San Felipe del Real (Chihuahua) Mexico he was married to Nicolasa de Orio Garcia, she was the daughter of Joseph de Orio y Zubiate. The Agurrie's and Zubiate's were founders of Chihuahua founded in 1704.

They owned and operated Gold and Silver mines and had their own smelting plant that was located in the central part of City of Chihuahua. I didn't know who Joseph Aguirre Sagardia's father and mother were, so if you say that you got information that he was from Pedro Aguirre, then I can accept that and quite frankly I appreciate the information. I am going to submit a detailed report on the Aguirre Families who spread out throughout the State of Chihuahua, Texas and Arizona.

The towns in Chihuahua where Aguirre families settled are Parral. Balleza, Aldama, San Bartolome, Santa Eulalia, Santa Barbara. It is said that Balleza was once known or is stil know as "Angostura de los Aguirre's." The Aguirre's at one time owned half of Balleza, where their mines were located. The same thing is true about Parral and all of the other Cities.

Would apprecite it Andrew if you woud give me more information on Bartolome and his descendants so that I can fill in the empty blanks. The Patriarch of the Aguirre's of Arizona is Yginio Aguirre who operates a Cattle Ranch and Cattle Company at Casa Grande, Arizona. I am told that Yginio has written a book on the Aguirre's of Arizona, I hope to obtain one in the near future if at all possible.

I'll close for now and will contact you if you would give me your e-mail address, mine is rjvill@inreach.com

Sincerely your cousin

Rodolfo José Villalba y Gutierrez Aguirre Garcia Escobar Palacios

The book is most likely "Echoes of the Conquistadores: History of a Pioneer Family in the Southwest" by Yjinio Aguirre, published in 1994. Unfortunately, it seems to be out of print. However, you might be able to find it at a college library or get it by interlibrary loan. The University of Utah has a copy in its special collections section. Good Luck!

Dear Rudolfo,

Very interesting bits of history. I am an Aguirre through my father Francisco Galindo Aguirre born in Mexico in 1901, I believe in the town of Saltillo and the state of Nuevo Leon. My fathers ancestors also immigrated from Spain and were Basque. He had two brothers Leon and Benjamin and a sister I believed named Concha.

While growing up in Texas and Colorado, I heard many anecdotal stories about my ancestors, ( how many were based in fact I've often wondered), some of which could tie into pieces of information that you have provided in your history. They were large landowners, supposedly atleast in part, due to Spanish landgrants. Many of my fathers uncles and relatives did not survive the Mexican revolution and my grandmother and atleast the three boys immigrated to the US to escape that conflict and settled in Brownsville and Coleman, Texas.

Does any of your research tie into my fathers name in the early 1900s?

I'd love to hear from anyone who has information on the subject.

Armando Aguirre

Apparently my family history ran into that same tree. I found that information on FamilySearch.org (Jesus Christ of Later Dei Saints). In Ancestry.com the book they referred to was called: Echoes of the Conquistadores: History of a Pioneer Family in the Southwest, Author: Aguirre, Y.F. I hope this helps you. I used the information as I had found it in FamilySearch. Is your tree or information posted anyplace?

Hola Rodofo, I have noticed a few familiar links of names in your post. first of all, thank you for your information on the Aguirre's.
My paternal grandmother was Ma. Virginia Aguirre b.1882 i think in Coahuila, Mex. She passed away in 1938 in Calif. USA. She had one sister by the name of Ma. Emilia Aguirre b. 1880. Virginia and Emilia mother's name was Ma. Guadalupe DeLeon, and their father's name was either Pedro Aguirre or Jesus Aguirre.
My father's name was Rodolfo Aguirre Montes. His brother's names are Agustin, Rojelio and Antonio. His sisters were Ma. Teresa and Emilia. My grandmother went by the name Ma. Virginia Aguirre de Montes.
Let me know if any of these names are familiar or if you need more info.
Sincerly, Virginia S. Montes 4/25/05
