ORANGE, MA -- Venerina (Capicchioni) Scarlatella, 71, formerly of Hopewell, died Saturday evening at her daughter's home, where she had lived since 1999.

Born in the Republic of San Marino, May 5, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Marino and Caterina (Albani) Capicchioni. She was married to Giuseppe Scarlatella Oct. 25, 1959. He died in 1978.

She moved to the United States in 1961, settling in Queens, NY before moving on to Pennsylvania. In 1967, she moved to New Jersey where she lived till 1998, and then moved to Orange, MA to live with her daughter, Maria Paoletti and her family.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed shopping, traveling, cooking, going to the casino, but most of all, spending time with all her family.

She had been a member of St. Alphonsus Church in Hopewell, and became a member of St. Mary's Church in Orange. She also had been a member of the Fratellanza Sammarinese of New York.

Survivors include a son, Salvatore Scarlatella, and his companion Kim Hicks, of Pennington; daughters, Maria Paoletti and her husband Anthony of Orange, MA and Caterina Scarlatella-Schiltz and her husband Kevin, of Minneapolis, MN; another son, Ricardo Scarlatella of Lawrenceville; grandchildren Daniel Scarlatella, Vincent Scarlatella, Jennifer Kiermaz, Joseph Paoletti, Julia Paoletti, and Jennifer Schiltz; sisters Domenica Minguzzi and Marisa Brigliadori, both of Italy; and several nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by a brother, Giuliano Capicchioni and a granddaughter, Emily Scarlatella.

Services in New Jersey will be 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday from the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, 71 E. Prospect St., Hopewell, with a Mass following at 10 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Church, 54 E. Prospect St., Hopewell.

Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Hopewell.

Calling hours will be held 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home.
