Veenstra Births in Aalten, Gelderland

I am looking for children of Oebele Berends VEENSTRA and Arendina WAGENVOORDE. I have found two but I wonder if there were any other children to this marriage.

1. Gerrit Nanne VEENSTRA b circa 1887 Aalten, Gelderland
2. Josina Hendrika Agatha VEENSTRA b circe 1892 Aalten, Gelderland.
I found this information on their marriage records on Genlias but would like their full birth dates if possible.

If anyone who has access to this information I would be most grateful to know the details.

Hi,
I thought Genlias only covers 1811 onwards. Arnoldus M Meiring was born in the early 1700's, so you will not find his details on Genlias. There are a few books (such as Ds.P G J Meiring en sy mense. Coetzee, NA 1964) that could help with getting a bit more info.

Pronk Genealogy Match?

Hello!

I noticed that you have PRONK family from Leeuwarden, Friesland. I am in the process of researching my husband's family, and they also have PRONK family from Leeuwarden.

At this time I do not have much to go on, but we have a Gerrick (or "Garry") PRONK. Gerrick immigrated to the US in about 1910, and lived in New York state (in Greenport first, then moved to Stuyvesant). Gerrick married Mary Hascup, and they had 4 known children.

Family says that Gerrick/Gary was a ship captain for the merchant marines, but we have a photo of him in a coal mine, too. Gerrick/Gary died in Duchess County, New York.

Does this sound like your family? If so, I'd love to hear what you've got...

I believe I got the original scan from the Den Haag archives, I cant exactly remember how I got there though. I did at the time capture the document and pieced it together.

Thanks everyone for all of your responses. Since I am snowed in I finally had a chance to really go through all of the information that everyone sent. It is all quite fascinating and helpful!

That is so interesting about the picture, it being soft porn. I would never have thought about that. I would love to know who Kees and Iet were. I have never heard anyone in my family speak these names. What info would we need to start that search?

As for finding the other children of Jacobus and Maria, the information from the Schiedam website has been a gold mine (Thanks Jan1713). And thanks to the help of Google translator, I have been able to get through parts of the sites that weren't translating into english. I was able to get birth certificates and some marriage certificates (the site emails them right to you! Beautiful!). There are other documents, that I am not sure what they are.

Marleen, I may send you some of these documents to you, a little at a time. Some of them I can kind of get the gist of, with Google translator, but others are so hard to read for me, that I am lost. I have attached the 3 files that are the most difficult ones.

Luke - in regards to the marriage certificate for Johannes Thijse and Elisabeth Bos. Where can I look that up. Was that on the Schiedam site? I looked up their names, but wasn't able to find anything. That is the first time I have seen mention of Elisabeth's parents.

Looks like it is another family. The Thijs (e, se) you have isnt a true last name but a patronym, and would change with every generation with the first name of the father.

Hello, I am new to this list and am interested in the name Thijs. The oldest Thijs I have in my family is born about 1574 in Zalk. His son Hermen Thijs born 1678, his son Thijs Harmssen born about 1620 then his daughter Harmpje Thijs born 1652. Could this be part of the family you are looking for?? I have siblings for Harmpje as Greetjen Hermens, Geurt Hermens, Annetje Thijs, Aeltjen Hermens and Deeltijen Hermens. Is it possible that all the siblings should have the surname as Thijs instead of Hermens? My Harmpje Thijs married Gerrit Alberts in 1686 in Zalk and their first son was Albert Gerrits Westera born 1687 in Zalk. Since this Albert the surname has remained Westera. Sharon Heeren Myers

The records of Rotterdam and Schiedam are not on Genlias. The Rotterdam ones are on http://rotterdam.digitalestamboom.nl Schiedam is an independent gemeente (city) to the west of Rotterdam. Their records are on:

I looked up the marriage certificate, I am not sure if you had that translated. My Dutch isn't perfect but here are the most important details:

Marriage date: Aug 17, 1870

Johannes Wilhelmus Thijse 23 years, old born and lives in Schiedam and Elisabeth Bos 28 years old, born and lives in 's-Gravenhage.

Father Groom:Jacobus Thijsse, Kolenmeter lives in Schiedam
Mother Groom:Maria Huizen? (not sure) lives Schiedam

Father Bride:Cornelis Bos (has passed away)
Mother Bride:Adriana Kern? (not sure) lives in 's-Gravenhage

two brothers of groom are witness:
Hendrik Jacobus Thijsse 31? years old, lives in Schiedam
Nicolaas Thijsse 29 years old, lives in Schiedam

I think Schiedam is part of Rotterdam, you may have to look there.

First I will help you with the writing, it is indeed Dutch. It says "met de beste wenschen aan jullie allen van Kees en Iet" which translates to "best wishes to you all from Kees and Iet".

I don't think the picture is from a lady of an acrobat troupe, but more a kind of "soft porn" photo that was at that day and time a bit shocking. Picture like that are now collectors items.

I don't really know where you could find out anything about the names on the other photo.Maybe there are still some Dutch relatives that can help you with that? Can I be of any assistance as to find the other children of Jacobus and Maria? Maybe I can find out who Kees and Iet were.... Just let me know.

Hi,

A while back you helped me move forward with some of my research. Unfortunately, I didn't get any further with that information. The last family members you helped me identify were Jacobus Thijse and Maria Huizer and that their daughter Maria Jacoba was Johannes Wilhelmus's sister (I descend from Johannes). You also said they had more children. I am attaching a picture that I have of Maria Jacoba (in the middle) with 2 women which I think are her sisters. It was on a postcard, which gives a little information and a date on the back (which I have also attached).

I tried searching these names in different places including Genlias, but with no luck. Do you have any suggestions as to where I might find information? A lot of the sites I have come upon are in dutch, which I can not read.

I also had another picture. We believe that an acrobat troupe use to be in our family. The picture I have has some writing on it in Dutch (I am assuming). I know it is hard to read, but I was wondering if maybe you could get the gist of what it says.

My name is Phil Greendyk (philgreendyk@gmail.com), and I'm originally from the Paterson NJ area. My family descended from the Sommelsdijk area.

The earliest I've been able to trace it back is to Jacob (Mattheuzoon) Groenendijk in the mid 1700's, who married Johanna van Altena on 9/20/1781.

My name is Leo (Leendert Cornelis van der Linde) (1953). The brother of your Cornelis (1846) was Hendrik (1839). His son was Leendert (1863). He married Helena Johanna van Wijk in 1920. Their son Leendert (1920)was my father. I have heard wild stories from my grand parents that a young women had been abducted by indians and has never been seen after that. Maybe you can shed some light on that. I have lived in Ouddorp till 1992, but live now in New Zealand with my 8 children. I am currently working on a family site and could give you the address.

Would really appreciate if you could find a birth record for Huibert & Bertha as we can not seem to get much information out of Amsterdam on the websites we have available to us in english.

A big favor to ask. Thru genlias we have found an
Apolonia Maria Zweerus we think she was born in Amsterdam and was born about 1876 and is married to a Sijmen
Polstra. We are showing about 5 childred of them who are getting married.
We think she could be one of Dirk Zweerus & Plonia Banen childred. If you could find a birth reord for her and who her parents that would be great.

We also found a Leendert Zweerus as the father of a
couple of childred getting married in Amsterdam as well.
It states he is the father and a Anna Catharina Van Zijl
as the mother. Working backwards we think he could have been born about 1887 perhaps in Amsterdam. Again if you could find a birth record for him and who his parents are would be great.

We know Dirk Zweerus & Plonia Banen were married May 12, 1871. We know Huibert was their son as we have a copy of
the death certificate stating who his parents were. He was born 1887 so we think they had to have more than just 2 childred.

Also while you are in the records for Amsterdam would you be able to check death records for both Dirk Zweerus and Plonia Banen.

According to the ships manifest of Mach 15, 1922 visited Hubertinus C Zweeres or Zweeris, together with his wife and 2 daugthers, his mother Mrs W Zweeres in Haarlem, where she lives Rozenprieelstraat 43.
There is 1 Richtje van der Veer born on May 15, 1890 in Harlingen. Hubertinus C Zweeres seems to be born in 1888 in Amsterdam.
