I am looking for information on John Frederick Boterman, born c. 1827 in Amsterdam, Holland, and his wife Aaltje Pieters, born 1830 the same place. They had my great grandmother , Ellen Artie who was also called Aaltje and little Artie, in 1850, in Chicago, Illinois, then they moved to Lake Praire, Iowa near Pella where John was listed in census as Frederick Boterman. He died there before 1870. Jane, Fredrick , Johanna, John and Grace were all born there in Iowa. After he died Aaltije also called Big Artie, moved to Waupun, Wisconsin.
She was there in 1870 but disappears after that.
Ellen Artie married William Frederick Marquardt, in 1871 under the names Artie H. Boterman and William F. Marquette in Portage City, Wisconsin. She listed her home town as Waupun and he listed his as Watertown, which is south of Portage City. They had two children in Wisconson before moving to Pella area where third child was born c. 1877. I suspect Aaltje must have moved back to Lake Prairie area after 1871 and may have died there c. 1877. Would appreciate any help you can give.
Jane married first John Brunhaver andthen John H. Kalkman. Fred married mary Redmond. Johanna died young in Orange City, Iowa. John married Hiltje (Lillie) Sipma and Grace, who left for Minneapolis to take up acting, appeared to have not married by the time of great grandma's death in 1924.
