I saw your message and wondered if the Harmina Brinkman b <1831> d 4 Mar 1867 and married 20 Feb 1862 to Johannes Duffels. Her parents were Hendricks Brinkman b <1793 and Antonia VELDKAMP b before 1805. They also come from Deventer and around there. If any of these names are familiar to you I would live to exchange information.

Hi Karen,

I too have ancestors that are from that same area, although some dates of birth are 1850, so a little earlier than your grandparents. The names in my family are Janna Wegereef and Arend Jan Christoffer Venneman, have you run across either of these names by chance? These are my 3rd great grandparents. Susan Stephens

the marriage of the daugther Jantje Harink on 28 February 1829 in Staphorst shows that her mother is named Grietje Jans Veijer and her farther Jan Harink. Search on http://wiewaswie.nl for the full data.
I looked for the baptizm extract of the bride and found on https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15329-52294-21?cc... (image 235) that it is marriage #7 of 1829. The papers for this marriage start at image # 288. There is a military record and a baptizm record of the groom. There is a baptizm record of the bride and the death record of her mother.

Jan Hendriks Harink, who would have been born circa 1780 in Overijssel, probably Staphorst or Rouveen was my 4th great grandfather. I do not know the surname of his wife, Grietjen Jans. I descend through their daughter Jantien Jans Harink and her husband Hendrik Lamberts Troost.

I would appreciate any information on the Harinks.

Thank you.

Hendrik Lamberts Troost and his wife, Jantien Jans Harink are my third great grandparents. Hendrik's parents are Lambert Hendriks Troost and Klaasje Lamberts Schemper. Jantien's parents are Jan Hendriks Harink and Grientjen Jans [--].
I descend from Hendrik and Jantien through Klaus Troost and Altje Dominee (2nd great grandparents), to Jan Klaus Troost and Hilligi Bovendam (great grandparents) to Klaus Troost and Maude Burroughs (grandparents) to Donald Morton and Marjorie Troost (parents) to me, Majorie Morton Krull.
How do you descend from Hendrik? I have considerable more information, if you would like it. I am writing a book on our family history from the Staphorst/Rouveen region in the early 1700's to America and the various places we settled...from a social history perspective of the times. I am a historian, primarily focusing on how people lived their lives (food, clothing, horticulture, housing, etc). I would love to be able to include your branch of the family in the book.

There is no reason to suppose this family is Jewish. All the names: Paul, Dirck, Hoff are typical Dutch names. Hoff (old spelling for Hof) is the Dutch word for court, in both the judicial and garden meaning. There are many people named Hof of Hoff in the Netherlands.

Dear mr May,
Apolonius Cornelis Westerbeek is also my great uncle. He was a brother of my grandmother. My mother has told me several times about her uncle Appo, as she called him. The first time she saw him was when he visited, in WO II after uncle Appo had liberated Holland with the US army, his home town Denekamp were my mother grew up. Because uncle Appo wore a uniform this was impressive. For many years i am searching for a fotograph of my great grand father, the father of uncle Appo who was an police agent, a kind of sherrif in Denekamp. Please let my know or such a foto is among the foto's you have.
I hope to hear something from you
Ale Holsbrink in Enschede, a town about 15 miles from the village Denekamp

You posted this message on the Netherlands, province of Overijssel, board.

It is obvious that you respond to another message (why not press the reply button?), but it is not clear what you would like to know re. The Netherlands.

If you need any help, it would be nice to know what the connection is between M. Pitner and The Netherlands. And a timeframe would be nice as well.

Kind regards,
Marianne

I am putting together this information for my dad Stephen Huff for his birthday which is not until January, but I know it takes a long time. Anyone who would like to help me and share info then please let me know! I too have had trouble finding anything before Dirck Hoff. My father is Stephen Huff, son of Floyd Huff and my his grandfather was Daniel Huff...I am hoping you can help me clarify that I am going in the correct direction. Any information you may have would be great. If I am from this same line then I can update you on all the current information regarding my father's brothers etc if you do not have it.
Thank you,
Elle Janel (Huff) Zimmerman

Apolonius Cornelis WESTERBEEK/WESTERBEKE b. Denekamp 1894

I have a trove of photographs and documents from my great-uncle Apolonius Cornelis "Bill" WESTERBEEK, a farmer in Yuma, Arizona. He was born in Denekamp, Overijseel, Netherlands in 1894 and died in Yuma in the early 1980's. He was the husband of my grandfather's sister Miriam Theodora "Teddy" BROWN, and served as an intelligence officer and translator in the U.S. Navy during WW2.

Some of the photographs look like they would be parents, uncles, cousins, etc., taken a hundred years ago or more, so I suppose there may be some genealogical value to family members who still live in the Netherlands.

Bill and Teddy never had any children. As the family historian I inherited all this stuff, but it really has no bearing on my own family, and so I would like to get it to one of his family members who might appreciate having it. Reply to this message.

Chris May
Scottsdale, Arizona

Yes I noticed my mistake. Have you not been successful in taking this further? I would think with a name like that the family likely came from the Achterhoek in Gelderland. If you are having problems I will look into it at some other time.

Okay. Elizabeth Ruselink is the daughter of Harmen Jan Ruselink (Reuselink) and Johanna Ruselink who were both born in Winterswijk, Gelderland, Netherlands; Harmen Jan on 4 Sep 1815, and Johanna on 26 Dec 1846. (Johanna was his third wife--hence the big age difference). If you go to www.dutchgenealogy.nl, I think you will be able to find most of her ancestors. You go to the 'Database' section were you can search by surname. There is so much information there. Or email me at marchess@aol.com. I can sent you a ancestor report printed from my Family Tree Maker software.

Hello All

I am hoping someone can give me an idea on where to start looking for showjumping results in Holland and Germany.

My grandfather (Engelbert Geerdink) was from Hengelo (Overijssel) and prior to the war he competed in showjumping in Holland and Germany. He shared the horse with Herman Langkamp, his brother in law who I also understand was a show jumper.

I understand there were professional photos taken of him and he won medals as well. Once the war started he used his horse to cart groceries as a green grocer so he could keep the horse. He was devastated when he could no longer keep his horse.

My father remembers seeing the photos and the medals however my grandmother 'in a fit of hatred' got rid of them all and we have no idea what happened to them. My parents looked for them when they went to Holland in 2000 however none of the family knew what happened to them. Both my grandparents are now deceased.

Any ideas on who I could contact (such as archives etc) to start looking for some information would be wonderful. My brother, his daughter, my son and myself are all keen riders so it would be wonderful to see where this love of horses came from.

Many thanks
Karen Geerdink-Hocking

Hi John

Really sorry this has taken ten years to get back to you however I had boxed my family history research and only just looking at it again now.

My ancestors were from Hengelo, Overijssel and immigrated to Australia in the 1960's. I have not found a connection to the US yet however if I do, will be sure to let you know.

Hope your research is going well.

Cheers
Karen

I have a suspicion that Dirck did not have a surname nor did Paulus, but were simply called by their father's name a la Dirckse(n), or son of Dirck, Paulusen, son of Paulus. My best guess is that the family took on the name of the region or village in the Netherlands that the family hailed from, Hoven, perhaps, which would be a good way to identify which Dutch family one is talking about in a new land filled with Dutch people. That classification then, possibly, degenerated into Hof or Huf. Just a guess.
I would love to share any info anyone has. I am new at this and haven't done anything on this site other than read other people's much appreciated work.
Thanks,
B Huff
