Thank you so much! Your information explains the confusion I was having of the different birth dates. Somewhere along the line he must have changed the spelling of his name from Hendrik to Hendrick. With what you have given me, I think I have gotten past the block I was having. You are awesome! Thank you so much!

Hi there,

Here is what I found so far.

Anna Jungerman. I found a website showing the location of her grave with the following information:

Terpstra, Anna A. (Jungerman) b. Oct 3, 1910, d. Apr 8, 2001, s/w Hendrick Terpstra, Center Section

(Hendrik is also buried there)

http://www.interment.net/data/us/wi/sauk/pleasant/valley.htm

Assuming the birth year is correct, I found only one birth record matching the year on wiewaswie.nl

Child:Hendrik Terpstra
gender:Man
DOB:maandag 28 september 1896
Father:Jannes Terpstra
Mother:Akke Zetzema
Event:Geboorte (birth)
Date:maandag 28 september 1896
Place:Smallingerland (located in the province of Friesland)

https://www.wiewaswie.nl/personen-zoeken/zoeken/document/a2a...

One issue is that his immigration record on Ancestry.com lists Hendrik Terpstra arriving in New York from Rotterdam on 24 FEB 1916 on the ship "Nieuw Amsterdam"

His birth date is listed as "ABT 1897"
His age is listed as 19
His birthplace is listed as "drachtein" which is a town/place located in Smallingerland

I would assume they wrote down the wrong birthdate? since the location and name matches the birth record.

Looking at the scan of the document, the handwriting is hard to read but it appears his listed occupation was a carpenter. Also, can't tell if he he came by himself for sure (I can't read the heandwriting in the document) but it does look like it.

Also on Ancestry is records on:

1930 census which shows him married to Anna and living in Excelsior, Sauk, Wisconsin.

His naturalisation papers showing it took effect on 2 NOV 1918 in the court district of Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa. (This document lists his correct birthdate unlike the immigration records).

Also his WW1 draft registration card listing him in the La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

All of these records would back the birth certificate found on wiewaswie.nl as being your Hendrik Tepstra.

A quick look on google found the following link to a family tree which if correct, list further ancestors for Hendrik Tepstra.

http://www.genealogieonline.nl/stamboom-deelstra-bijker/I214...

I'm searching for any information on the family history of Hendrick Terpstra b. 1896 d. 1981. He came to America from Holland around 1918. He is my daughter's great-grandfather. Her grandfather (John Terpstra) has been able to give only very limited information about their family. All he seems to know is that his father (Hendrick Terpstra) came from Holland. Hendrick Terpstra was married to Anna Jungerman.

Christiaan Diederik Poot was born January 10 1897 in Velsen, province North Holland. His mother was Cornelia de Wilde, his father Arij/Arie Poot.
Arij Poot was born in Vlaardingen ca 1845, parents Frans Poot and Magdalena Bos. Cornelia de Wilde was born ca 1852 in Beverwijk, parents Christiaan Diederik de Wilde and Hendrina Barbas. Arij and Cornelia married January 23 1896 in Velsen. At the time of his marriage Arij was a florist-aid, he was married before to Nantje Muijs. He died at age 59 on February 22 1904 in Velsen.
Frans Poot was born December 28 1812 in Vlaardingen, parents Jacob Poot and Gerritje van der Hout. Magdalena Bos was born in April 14 1816 in Vlaardingen, parents Arij Bos and Arijaantje Verboon. Frans and Magdalena married November 9 1836 in Vlaardinger-Ambacht.
Hope this helps. You can find out more about this family at: www.wiewaswie.nl

My great-grandpa came to the US in 1905. He lists Santpoort as his birthplace on Jan 10, 1897. His father may have married a du Wilde and her name was Cornelia. His wife's name was Madeline Wildy. My grandpa knew very little about his grandparents and I can find nothing in the birth registry for a Christian D Poot. Does anyone have a lead for me?

Aha, now that makes a bit of sense.. But still I cannot find anything about her possible marriage, or her death, which is perplexing. if she died in the Netherlands or over the border in Germany, I should be able to find something somewhere. I have spent several hours today on the computer trying to find anything I can that relates to her. I will continue, and thank you very much for your kind assistance.

Cheers M

Ok everyone, I am now totally frustrated, I have been to the Amsterdam Archives, (Thanks you Jan, I would not have found it on my own) Family Search, and any other numerous sites. If Arnoldine was born, and yes she was, how is it I cannot find anywhere that she died? I have searched the Germany records, the Dutch records, I have found her sister's death record, but there does not seem to be any record of Arnoldine's death? Am I looking in the wrong place? Not being good at reading the language does make it more problematical for me. I really am so stuck.
Hello,

Im the Amsterdam Archive there is a card of Arnoldine.

The card is part of "het bevolkingsregister " (a kind of permanent census )

To view the card online you have to pay.

That the card is part of "Overgenomen delen " means she either died or moved to a other city. ( in between 1892 and 1920 )

http://stadsarchief.amsterdam.nl/archieven/archiefbank/index...

Bye , Jan

There is a missing link in my search of the de Gruyter line. Arnoldine b. 20/3/1869 Amsterdam, daughter of Arnold J M de Gruyter & Pauline Ross, sister of my Gr Grandfather Ferdinand Arnold Ludwig de Gruyter, I have found her birth and christening details, but have been unsuccessful in all avenues, Amsterdam Archives, Family Search, contact of family in Holland, cousin in Sydney, etc, all having the same problem. there seems to be no record of her death or possible marriage. Just wondering if anyone out in Ancestry world could put me in the right direction. Appreciate it. cheers All. M

Hi Jodie
I came accross this family tree, looking for our relatives in Australia (as we lost track long time ago) and I have some additions if you are interested.Your grandfather Nicolaas Kwanten is my fathers brother, who is Henricus Cornelis Marie, born in Gennep on 22071907 and died in Well on 14031985. And my father was not the only brother, there was, as you said, Jan Hendrik (1901), Theodora (1903), Antonetta (1905), my father, Nicolaas, Frannciscus (1911) and Gertruda (1919) who is as far as I know, still alive. My name is Leonarda (born in 1949 in Well) and I know live in South Africa with my husband. My two children are still in Holland.
Pieter Jan Hubert, by the way, was born on 21011871 and died in 1946.
Where do you fit in??
Kind regards,
Leonne

I do not find any RC person named de Lima in Amsterdam. Most of them are jews from Portugal and Spain. A few are dutch reformed. See
http://stadsarchief.amsterdam.nl/archieven/archiefbank/index... for the saved registrations. Abraham suggests jewish origin.
There were no bishops in Holland in that time and Amsterdam never had a cathedral. An index to the original books with baptizms, marriages and burials in Amsterdam is on http://genver.nl/nh/dtb0363d.htm

There are no censuses of Amsterdam saved from before 1850

My 4th great grandfather, Abraham de Lima, immigrated to the Island of Puerto Rico in 1830. In his request to the Spanish government to immigrate, he stated that he was baptised in the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Amsterdam. The baptism would have happened in about 1800. Unfortunately, I cannot read or speak Dutch. I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this name in an Amsterdam Roman Catholic church record or index? How would this name be written in Dutch?

Many thanks for your time and help.
David

Records of Amsterdam Walloon Reformed Church

I am hoping someone may be able to help me interpret an Attestation (in French) from the above records, dated 1696 (file attached). It consists of the names of married couples, followed by the letters "pd" or perhaps "ps" and the name of a city or country. The entry that interests me reads as follows: "Jacques Le Marchand et Percide Billet sa femme pd Hambourg". I have no idea whether them were heading for Hamburg or had arrived from there! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

There are no silly questions, only questions.
For general research in the Netherlands we use http://wiewaswie.nl This site is still in beta form and records are still being added. After finding someone there I look for the gemeente where it happend and then I try to find the record on http://www.genver.nl The record usually gives the parents of the record involved. When too difficult ask a question in this message board about 1 person with as much information about the person that youy already have.

Regards,

Jan

Thank you for the reply.

My husband was not born in the Netherlands. Mike's parents emigrated to Australia in 1958. My husband & his brother grew up with the knowledge that they did not have relatives beyond their grandparents and that his grandparent did not have any siblings, just as their parents were. However, we have already worked out their maternal grandfather had at least 6 brothers & sisters!

There are some photo albums however information on the people in the photos does not exist.

The information we have at this time is:

Father: Gerard Van Den Broek B 05 FEB 1932 Amsterdam D 02JUN 1993
Grandfather: Gerard Willem Van Den Broek B 03 OCT 1898 Leiden D?
Grandmother: Elisabeth De Vrij B?
To help with research we need first names and ages. Is your husband born in the Netherlands? In which year and in which place is he born? What is/are his first name(s)? Does he know the first name(s) of his father? When was his father born?

Thank you for your reply. Up until the last 6 hours we literally only had Van Den Broek & Koreman. We have now 2 others - Toun & Willemse. No or extremely limited details have been left with photos & verbally we had been consistently told there is no other family. Great desk of searching ahead if us!

Hi

I realise you have not logged on for about a year so you will probably not see this message - but I saw your previous message about having a will by John Haley which mentioned his mother Janna Haley nee Jeems. This person may well be a relative of mine and would be grateful of any further information that the will may contain.

Regards
Steve Fuller

My contact information:

John Spikerman
1906-699 Cardero St
Vancouver, BC
Canada V6G 3H7
E: jspike@shaw.ca
C: 604-803-3809

Also, my daughter Clare (age 28) lives in Brooklyn NY.
E: cspikerman@gmail.com

All the best Coert.

John
