Hi. My name is Donna Wesseling Rogers and I am looking for information about my grandfather Willem M. Schipper and his family. His father's name was Geurt Schipper and his mother's name was Alijda Willemina Heilijers. My grandfather had 3 brothers and 1 sister. The brothers names that I remember were: Berhendt & Pieter. His sisters name was Johanna. I think she married a Kroeskamp. My grandfather said he was born in Naarden. Any information anyone has about them would be greatly appreciated. From the Netherlands my grandfather moved to Canada and then to Michigan.
Thank you in advance!
Donna Wesseling Rogers

In the special Iowa 1915 or 1925 individuals listed the city they were born in and Aleta Smit stated Nips. With much searching I found a city in Zeeland, Netherlands like that name but, family oral history states she was from Amsterdam and she was born in Beverwijke. I finally did find a city ten miles south east of Amsterdam called Nijps, Noord Holland, Netherlands and a LDS record with the birth date for a Aleta SMIT. I believe Aleta was born in Beverwijke Noord Holland, Netherlands (of Nijps) and married in Amsterdam to Martinaus Schipper and had Gertrude Schipper in Amsterdam as Gertude;'s funeral card obituary states.
Aleta Smit of Amsterdam, Netherlands was Married four or five times
1. Her first husband Martinus Schipper was believed to be an Alcoholic and died in Netherlands.
2a. Her second unknown husband is believed to died of TB in Netherlands.
2b. She was married to Gijsbert vande BRUINHORST September 15, 1904 in Beverwijk, Noord Holland, Netherlands. It believed she left him to come to the Iowa in 1906.
3. Her third unknown in husband in Iowa was abusive to the children and they were separated after a month. He believed he had to spank the children every week to keep them in line and Aletta would have no part of this abuse.
4. Her third husband came to the US in 1906 as Henry De Jong lived in and died in Orange City, Iowa. He is one ot the witnesses of my Grand Mother Gertrude Schipper's wedding in 1917.
5. Moved with her last husband and married Peter Dykstra and moved to Lynden, Washington State, USA

HE / She Had a Grocery Store in Orange City Iowa and lived up stairs. She move to Bellingham Washington where a Uncle Rich Kramer who Married Marie Schipper lived (John Kramer's Uncle and Aunt).
It is believed Alleta and Peter came to Lynden, Washington first and Richard an Marie moved later because she missed her mother. (John Kramer's Uncle and Aunt).

Records indicate she was married to a Martinus Schipper in the Netherlands. Family history states Gertrude was born in Amsterdam.
