Hi,

It must indeed be the family I wrote abute in my previous message!
I looked them up in the Population Registration and guess what
it says they left for Amerika in june 1884!!
(they may have left a bit earlier but were written out of the Population registration a bit later)
They had more children, but they al died very young, except for Geertje, if the population registration is correct.
Only Maghiel and his wife and daughter Geertje were left and they went to Amerika

.
Do you think this could be the couple you search for?

Hi Jettie, thanks for your response. I was able to get this information from Janteam earlier from my post and its fascinating because we thought my Great Grandmother may have been an only child and knew nothing about that side of the family. Now we have all this amazing information that not only was she the only surviving child but was a twin as well. I was able to pull up birth records and death records on all of the children but none of them state cause of death. I would love to find out why so many children died or even why they left for America. That must have been really heartbreaking for Magchiel and Pieternella. Do you know how I can find out more about that? I was told that "cause of death" was not listed on the Netherlands death records. Or if I can find out what Cemetery they were buried in? My Great Grandmother died of cancer in 1929 and her mother Pieternella died in 1898 both in Paterson New Jersey. My Great Grandmother's death records state her last name was "Haase" which was wrong. My father and his surviving sister know very little about their ancestors. Also, were can I go to possibly find a photo of them? Is it possible that there may be photo records from the Netherlands? I have unmarked photos from my family that I cannot identify and am positive they may be in some of those photos. Thanks so much for contacting me. It is so nice to have confirmation on family history to share with my father who is 84 years old and is dying of cancer. Regards, Janice

Hello Janice,

I couldn't reply earlier, but here I am then .
First, if you ask information again, it would be very nice if you mention it in your post when someone found things for you, so people don't look for things you already have
In this case I've been searching quite a while and it appears you already got that from Janteam...
So please mention it if you get information, oke?

Indeed in the death records in Netherland a cause of death was not mentioned
It's very well possible that the children died because of an infectious disease.

I have no idea how to get photo's - if there were any. In that early time it was just beginning, from richer family's it's easier, but the more poor or ''normal'' people have mostly no photo's in the older times, or you must be lucky to find still living family, that have kept it all that time.
Unfortunally I can't help you with these things.
I tried to find something in the old papers, but ....nothing

I can imagine how special it is for you to find out more about the ancestors, I'm very sorry that your father is dying of cancer...it will be very good that you now can still share it with him.
Wish you many strenght with this!

Regards, Jettie

Hello Janice,

From about 1874-1877 there was an epidemic of smallpox (''pokken '' in Dutch, a disease),
in Goeree-Overflakkee in which Melissant is. Maybe that was the cause?
and 1870-1873 in many places in Netherlands.

Their burials won't be there online, graves from such older times are often not there anymore
The only possibility I can think of is that they are registred in the archiv if they have those.
(archiv of Goeree-Overflakke, mail: streekarchief@goeree-overflakkee.nl )

regards,
Jettie

Jettie,

Thank you so much for your reply and for researching the old papers. You really went above and beyond my expectations and I'm so grateful. Also wanted to apologize for not mentioning that I received information from Janteam...I assumed that my replys were posted automatically to the message board and because I'm so new to this message board I'm still learning. Its a great tool for research help and your advice is well received. You and Janteam have been so helpful each giving me information that I never knew existed...that I am very grateful for and sharing that information with my father before he passes has been an experience I will never forget. Thank you so much, Janice
