Thank you for this information. I have a different birth date for Gertrude Shaaf. Do you have any supporting documents such as a birth certificate for Gertrude? I was unable to locate that document and the census' do not list a specific date of birth. I know she died of cancer and is buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson., NJ. in a family plot, however her daughter's death certificate reads Gertrude Haase as mother not Schaaf. y immediate family believes this is in error. At her death she was being taken care of in the home of Harry Ribbe and his wife, close family friends in Paterson. She was estranged from her husband but not officially divorced and still married to Richard E A Kriesien. Does the Haase or the Ribbe name mean anything to you? I have been researching the Haase name for a few years to see if there is a reason for the confusion in her last name at the time of her death. Thank You.

Looking at the US census 1900 the date of birth of Gertie Kreisien is Jul-1877.
The date of birth of her father , who is living in , mentioned Jan 1837 but that should be 1839

Here you find the birth-record of Geertje :
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-159370-206449-64?...

Geertje had 6 siblings ( incl. a twin sister of Geertje ) but they all died young.
There was also a male stillborn child on 28-Jan-1879.
The first child Jannetje was born out of wedlock ( reg. name Visser ) but legitimatized by the marriage of Magchiel and Pieternella

See this record :

Greetings, Jan

P.S At this moment the names Haase or Ribbe doesn't ring a bell.

Jan, thank you so much. This is incredible information for my family as I knew very little about my Great Grandmother Gertje Schaaf. I am ready to dive into the info you provided and am fascinated that she had 6 siblings, one a twin of hers, that my family knew nothing about. Because you were able to provide this info to me so quickly after I have been searching for a couple of years, I would love your direction in searching for death records for her siblings. It is hard to lose one child let alone 6. So I am curious as to cause of death although stillborn death was not oncommon.

From the census you provided I believe these are the correct children and date of births:

Jannetje 13 Dec 1868
Geertje 11 Mar or May 1870
Jannetje 9 May 1871
Hendrick 13 Jul 1873
Geertje 8 Jan 1875

and twins...
Jannetje and Geertje 10 Jul 1877

Then the still born son you mentioned 28 Jan 1879

Could you please verify the children and dates...it is hard to read the handwriting on the census you sent to me. Thank you again for your help.

I think on the population record a 7th sibling is missing.
An other Geertje was born in 1872 and died also that year.

I'm using this site , were you can check all the dates yourself :
https://www.wiewaswie.nl/en/search/advanced-search/

The Dutch death records never mention the cause of death.

After you find the record date ( on the birth- and death record not always the same as the date of birth or death ! ) on the side mentioned above you go to this site :

http://zoekakten.nl/

There you go to ZH ( = the province Zuid-Holland ) - Melissant- indexen
(geboorten = births , overlijden = deaths and huwelijken = marriages )

Good luck,
Jan
