I have just got hold of an old, and possibly also a family, photo. It shows an older couple in traditional costume, possibly Dutch. There is a shop in the background that sells cigarettes and presumably liquor, as someone has identified a Kuipers gin bottle. The name C F Diesch appears above the awning, which states English Spoken, On Parle Francais and Man Spricht Deutch, so it obviously isn't in England, France or Germany.
Does anyone have a C F Diesch, shopkeeper, in their family?Has anyone any idea where to start in locating the place? It doesn't look 'staged' as there is a man walking in the background. The street is cobblestones.
The reason for all this is that it is believed to be of my GGrandparents, Gustave and Elisabeth Van der Velden, and the location could crack my brickwall. Can send photo to anyone with any ideas if that would help. There are no names at all on the reverse of the photo, only the T 729, in print like date stamp printing, but the 7 doesn't have the usual European slash across the 7. The original is approximately 8 cms X 6 cms.
Do hope someone may be able to help.
