I am a Rechtien and I live in Germany. I did ancestry research on this family. I want to tell all persons by the name Rechtien/Rechtin and so on, that the origin of this family is in a small farmers country named Thiene, in the North land of Osnabrück, Germany.

I saw your message.
I live is Oakville a small community within St. Louis County, Missouri, USA. I have determined that my great grandfather, his parents, and brothers emigrated from Germany(Hanover) in 1853. On the ship manifest it states that they were from Lengerich. However, I have seen Rechtin/Rechtien's from Alfhausen, Theine, and Neuenkirchen. I would like to find information about the family in Germany.
The parents names were Joh. Bernhard (born ABT 1800) and Maria Anna. The children who emigrated with their parents were Heinrich Herman, Benedict, and Clemens.

My father was Edward Bernard Rechtine Jr. When we visited the Cemetary, my Grandfathers name was spelled Rechtien, and his Fathers was Rechtein. All from Germany. Please let me know if these are relatives.

Where did the family reside (City and State)? What cemetery did you visit?

I'm trying to make a connection between West Virginia Rechtine who also came from Germany to other Rechtine in the United States. The original West Virginia Rechtine I've found is possibly John H Rectine listed in the 1860 census (Kingwood, Preston Co., VA) born Hanover Germany approximately 1791. I guess I need to find some other Rechtine decendants who have info. Thanks, Georgia Rechtine Willis

There also was a daughter Christine on board the same ship Bluecher with her 1st husband John Benard Elsberg and two daughter that died at sea. Also there was the family of Maria Anna (Wilmes)' brother Johann Bernard Wilmes including a daughter who died at sea. There were also to other Rechtien boys that came over two years earlier. The parents died within weeks of arriving in St. Louis. The six kids are all buried at Sts Peter & Paul Cemetery on Gravois. Email me if you would like more details.

Hi. The Records for St. Johannis in Alfhausen, Germany have all been scanned and indexed by Siegfried Smid. I currently assist the Smid family in the sale of the DVD here in the USA. They (the scans) are available on a data DVD for a very reasonable price... they come on the DVDas jpeg files or as pdf files. They pdf files are much easier to use especially when zooming. Here's a link to the web page for info on the DVD: http://www.sjsmid.nl/Dan Jungclas dan@jungclas.com
