As to the second child, Cornelis:

He was born on 29 Nov 1897 at 07.00 hrs.
Apparantly dad Gerrit went to declare his birth at the civil registry as soon as possible, that same morning. Cornelis died only 4 hours after he was born, at 11.00 hrs, so when dad Gerrit came home, his son had already died or was dying.... Can you imagine that? He declared the death the next morning.

Marianne

I am looking for information particularly the birth date of Marritje Johanna (Maria) Koelman. I know she was born in 1909 and died in January 23 1910. I found her death record but am unable to find her birth record. Her mother was Catharina Elisabeth Onkenhout (my great grandmother) born October 6 1873 in Haarlemmermeer, Noord-Holland, Netherlands who died August 19 1909 in Purmer, Purmerend, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. Her father was Gerrit Koelman. He was born in 1870 I believe, and died May 30 1943 in Winterswijk, Gelderland, Netherlands. I have been unable to find his birth record also.

I am wondering if that is the correct spelling? One of my aunts has a letter sent by her family many years ago about her death so I think that is where they got the spelling. Hopefully she will send me a copy of the letter. Are you related to us?

Thanks,
Alieda
We are trying to find information on our grandmother's sister, Sara Koelman. We believe her married name may have been Kuim and that she may have had a son Keese Kuim. We have found her birth record. She was born October 18, 1899 in Haarlemmermeer. Her mother's was Catharina Elisabeth Onkenhout and her Father was Gerrit Koelman and that is all We have been able to find out about her. We are looking for her marriage and death records. If anyone has any information it will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nico,

Thanks for writing. I have traced my Sandman roots to Bernardus Sandman, born 1762, died 1821 in Arnhem. He was married to Margrita Peterman. To the best of my knowledge, they had two sons, Hermanus born 1787 and Hendrik born 1791, and a daughter Anna born 1794. Since then, to the best of my knowledge, the Sandman family has been in Arnhem.

I have heard of a Sandman line in Texas but I don't know if or how they are connected to my line. I will have to research that line.

Do you know if your line somehow traces to Bernardus, either directly or indirectly? Is Sandman a common name in Arnhem or would all the Sandman families somehow be related?

I can send you a gedcom file of my Sandman line and other related families if you are interested. Look forward to hearing from you again.

Steve
Hi,

I did some searching on the net and found the following:
The full name of the book is "nazaten van Berent Elserman en Derksken Oink op Wilgenhof" and is a publication of the work group genealogy of the foundation "de elf marken" in Gorssel. It contains info of the family Wilgenhof in the area of Zutphen, Almen, Gorssel, etc.

The book, as well as a drawn diagram, is still available. Costs: euro 25 for the book, euro 12 for the diagram, plus postage. You can order it at info@deelfmarken.nl
Website: www.deelfmarken.nl

Kind regards,
Marianne

I am looking for the Wilgenhof family genealogy book. I have a few pages but am looking for the book. It is written in Dutch. I am hoping someone who reads this thread will have information where I might be able to get a copy. I have contacted book sellers in the US with no success as I do not know the author or publisher only that it is about the Wilgenhof family tree mostly from Zutphen.

my email is lbaars@telus.net

I can try to outline the procedure so someone else might benefit from it too. Finding the original records really makes genealogy so much more fun, and you never know what you might find.

1) Finding the record on genlias.nl
We have:
- name Jan Roerink
- death date 20 Nov 1922
- municipality Groningen, province Groningen
- record # 1352
(maybe easier to write it down so it is right in front of you)

2) Go to Genver.nl -> select province Groningen

3) Select municipality Groningen (http://genver.nl/gr/0014.htm)

4) You should now have a listing of links to all the documents available for the city of Groningen.

geboorten - births

huw.-aangiften, huw.-afkondigingen - applications to marry
huwelijken - marriages

huwelijkse bijlagen - marriage supplement documents ( difficult to search but often very rewarding, these are the documents that have to be submitted in order to get married. For example a certificate of military duty.

Overlijden - death records

5 Near the bottom you should be able to find:

10699841	Overlijden 1922 [463 img]

So there are 463 images for that year, we know it is record # 1352 but we also know that November is about near the end of the year so jumping to image 400 should get us fairly close.

But we are gettign ahead of ourselves we need to click on the link:

10699841	Overlijden 1922 [463 img]

we are at image 1 you should be able to see the line :

Netherlands, Civil Registration, 1792-1952 Groningen Groningen Overlijden 1922
Image of 1 of 463

Where you see image 1 of 463 fill in 400 as an educated guess, 400 being somewhat towards the end of 463.

If all done correctly you should see this page:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19046-18474-39?cc...

and it looks like we are at record 1282 so we did not quite go far enough.

425? brings us to record 1362

the actual record can be found on page 422

A little bit of bad luck the record number has accidentally been covered up with only the "2" visible but towards the center of the page you can see the name Jan Roerink underlined it is the right record.

Hi Luke, I took a run at finding the digitized copy of Jan's death record, and found it quite frustrating (or myself quite inept.) An in-browser translator helped, but I found myself looking at a huge document of scanned microfilm with no way of finding the proper record (1352). Can I email you to walk through the proper way to look this stuff up?

You can find scans of all the original documents from familysearch.org. The easiest way to get them although still difficult without a fluency in Dutch is to locate them first on http://www.genlias.nl/en/search.jsp

When you have the actual birth/death/marriage registration date and the record # you can then try to locate the actual documents on http://genver.nl/indexnh.htm

like I did in my previous message for the "marriage supplement documents" all the other documents can be found that way aswell.

Wow, this is great information!

Jan, thank you for the fantastic first bunch of steps. Even with my limited experience at this, the pieces you provided allowed me to go back even further fairly quickly.

Luke, also thanks! I'm discovering I had a much deeper ancestry in the Netherlands than I imagined.

I confess, I'm finding my lack of language skills to be a bit of a hindrance. I was looking up words as I event in order to perform a few searches on genlas . Are there ways of getting scans or digitized copies of actual documents, or is my best hope to just expect transcribed database information?

I also know that my grandmother travelled to meet and marry my grandfather in order1947, according to a passenger manifest I have. Janna Roerink travelled from Amsterdam to New York . I also have a physical visitor permit from Amsterdam1959 when her mother visited my grandparents on an RCAF base in Germany. She had remarried at this time.

Is there any record of registered addresses that can be searched?

Kris

See genver.nl for the link page where all the original records can be found. Find the record first on genlias since it is a searchable database to get the exact birth/marriage/death registration dates, also note the record number that can make it easier to find the actual record. Let us know if you need any help finding the actual record and/or for translation.

Anna Marie Roerink Dongelmans?

Hi all,

I'm trying to find information about my grandmother's parents. She was born in 1922 in Groningen to Anna Marie Roerink and Jan Roerink (I believe). Jan died around the time of her birth, so I am not sure if Roerink was his last name or her maiden name. My grandmother was named Janna. Jan worked for the JB Wolter publishing company at the time. Anna later married a Louie Donkelmans or Dongelmans, and they lived in Arnhem. My grandmother had been there during the second world war. There was a son, Jan, as well as two daughters, Marie and Annie.

Any information that you could provide would be a huge help!

I have recently discovered a family connection to Adriaan Frederik Vogelaar who married Carolina Frederika Agnita Becude in 1906 in Arnhem, Netherlands. They had at least one child, Willem Vogelaar, who died 1934 at age 14 in Arnhem. Is anyone connected to this family?

Steve

Hello Elna,

Possible that they married in Sudlohn ofcourse ,
you could mail to the archiv Sudlohn/Oeding, I was very well helped there. If German language is too difficult, English will be understand too I assume.
website : http://www.suedlohn.de/

mail-adress: gemeinde(@)suedlohn.de

Or you can try by posting your question on the German Message Boards,

always mention the religion the family had -if you know.

Then another option: there is a German Genelogie Forum on
http://forum.genealogy.net/
that's in German, but English language will be understand also perhaps, you will to have log in with a mailadres and password.
Then go to Regional and choose for Nordrhein Westfalen, Sudlohn is in this state.

Goodluck!
Jettie
