Does anyone know the equivalent of the name George in Dutch?
Thanks

George might be Joris, Gregorius, or even Sjors.

What you think of Gerrit, Gerard.

Thank you both! Yes, there was a Gerrit in the family! So he is my George here in the United States.
Appreciate the info, it was exactly what was needed. I am so glad that you responded with your offers to help!

I have a Gerrit and a Gerardus in my family. They called Gerardus "Gradus" "george" and others.

Interesting. My grandfather was a Gerrit and my father's middle name was that too. I was always told that the English equivalent was "jerry". Have to love translations from various languages.

We're not technically talking about translations so much as what to want to be called in the new country. Sometimes there was economic pressure not to sound too ethnic and many of the first and last names became butchered to sound more English.
