Hi Ruth,

He's probably born on 12.25. 1887 or 1888 according to his WW 1 and WW 2 registrationcards.
You can find the cards on familysearch.com

There is only 1 Vandenack family in Wisconsin. You can find them also on familysearch.com
His father may be Prosper and his mothers' name Victorine/Victoire/Victoria.

Hope this helps you a bit.

Happy hunting,

Rian in the Netherlands

Thank you Rian. Thomas made up his bday, lol, so he made it on Christmas., but the year is fairly correct. I did get into touch with a few families from Greenbay WI, one of them said there was more than one Vandenack family there and we were not related.
Connacted a Nun who does research and lives in Greenbay, nothing turned up. I think he was not registered at birth, home birth, and since he lived with grandparents till age 4 yrs, mother was probably not married. I will follow up on your suggestions.
Surprised how many orphans homes there were at that time.
Ruth

Hello again, still seaching for Thomas A Vandenack. I have a question , what did you mean by only one Vandenack family in Green Bay WI? When my bother in law went there several years ago , the phone book was fill of them. The more I thought about it I talked to an Aunt , who's father was also Thomas Antone Vandenack. Family story has it a lady named Constantine visited Thomas at the orphans home often. When Constantine (sp) died a lady called Odile Miller ( and our Aunt meant Odile) contacted Tom (nickname) and let him know Constantine died and was calling for him on her death bed.

Years ago I contacted family of Prosper Vandenack and the lady said these Vandenack's were not related....but they had a daughter named Constante/Constantina/ etc. who was 16 yrs at the time. Maybe a pregnant teen mother forced to give up her baby. The couple who took Tom and raised him until he was 4 yrs old put him in the orphans home due to the man abusing him. I wonder if they were grandparents or just care givers. He called them grandparents, but....

I am thinking Prosper's teen daughter might have been the mother of Thomas Antone Vandenack. I don't understand why I can't find information at least from the orphans home, I talked to a Nun (they were Catholic), on the phone, in Green Bay Wi. She looked in their records and there wasn't anything on him.

It is just an interesting mystery in my hubby's family. Thanks Ruth Vandenack

Hi Ruth,

Here's the family coming to the US http://goo.gl/WIDdKe
You can see the original on familysearch but this doesn't give further clues.

A Constance VandenAc is born 28 November 1870 in Brown county Wisconsin.
She's the daughter of Prosper and Victoria
See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XR61-BJM

And here is Odile getting married to Arthur Pelkin on 20 January 1903 in Brown county, Wisconsin https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRVW-T6H

Maybe this also helps you to solve the mystery.

Regards, Rian
