I forgot to add in my first reply that this group of surnames (see previous posting) may have come from France,or the areas bordering France. Many of the given names are sometimes in the French form, i.e. Jacques, and sometimes in the Dutch form, i.e. Jacobus. That may be due to the history of the areas, rather than nationality. Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Billie. This family is from the Netherlands and did not immigrate (as far as I know). The van der Donks were in my husband's maternal line. He is descended from: Geertruy van der Donk who married Petrus Gerol(d)t. Their daughter Maria Gerolt (b. 1827 Utrecht) m. Hendrik Cornelis Spiering. Their daughter Frederika Gerritje Spiering m. Willem Arnoldus Hogeweg. Their son Willem Arnoldus (b. 1894, d. 1977 Netherlands) m. Maria Johanna Antonia van Den Berkhof. Their daughter Frederika is my husband's mother. There are many variations, such as Donk, van Donk, etc. I do not know if these are all related or not. The only early documentation is the original birth registration record for Maria Gerolt in 1827. A photo of this document is on my website at http://www.xtalwind.net/~bchef
where I also have pictures of other relatives from the Netherlands. Good luck with your research!

Born in Rotterdam in 1945, emigrated to Grand Rapids, Mi. in 1955, now live in Columbus Ohio, would also like to trace my roots. Still have contacts in Nederland, but have not had a lot of luck tracing the Donk family.

I'm researching the family of Archork Lambert Van Del Donk born in 1818 in Holland and shows up on the 1870 Federal census of Franklin, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The family moved to Tennessee and then to Louisville, KY. Is there anyone else researching this family?
