I am looking for the descendants of Philippus de Haan, he was born in Rotterdam 23 Oktober 1907. He was a backer from proffession. Son of Mozes de Haan and Rosetta de Haan. Except for one brother he might be the only surviver of this family so I am searching for descendants for a friend. He leaves Rotterdam probabely working as a cook on a ship. He left 1st July 1929 to America. He came back from New York on 5th of August 1931 and left (for work) again leaving no address. He left on 29 August 1934. Probabely again working on a ship bound for America/New York. I would appreciate every help I can get.

I just read your posting. I am struggling trying to trace down a similar name. My ancestor came from Germany to the United States in 1845. He is listed on the ship's passenger list as Peter Hohn. Family lore says he spoke both German and Dutch. When he was in the United States for some time he took the name Terhune, which was an established American name deriving from a Dutch surname. My suspicion is that the name was originally something like deHoehn. Does that sound plausible? How would that be pronounced?

Hello,
it is possible that the original spelling was Ter Horne !
Do you have an idea when your Peter Terhune was born?

Yes, he was born in 1808. When he came to the U.S. in 1845 he declared he was from Germany and later I found a place of origin listed as Bavaria. In another census it is listed as Ni-Stot.
That is all I know.

You could try

Dutch Civil Records Online.
Ni-Stot doesn't ring any bell! Which census is this mentioned?

Hello
I am also looking for Philippus de Haan, I have a cousin who believes that she is related to Philippus`s mother Rosetta de Haan. Can you tell me how you are related to the family please? Did Philippus ever marry?
I found an American Army enlistment form presumable for him, dated 15 Sept. 1942. The birth date of 1907 checks but I have no other proof.
If you have any other information I would be most grateful.
