I have a number of Faas family members (originally from Zeeland) who emigrated to the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids area. Can we compare notes and perhaps we can help each other in identifying missing family members.

VAN BOVEN emigration to the USA
I'm researching the descents of Jan Van BOVEN & Josina VAN BOVEN born BRAAMSE. They arrived in the USA Between the 31 march 1897 and before the 18th august 1898. They arrived first in Patterson, New-Jersey where their son Johannes VAN BOVEN is born, then they move to Muskegon, MI where Pieter, Gommert, Cornelia were born then they moved to Grand Haven, MI where Adriana is born in 1906 and then they arrived finally to Kalamazoo, MI where Adriaan is born in 1907 and Jacob in 1909. It seems after that Cornelius moved to indianapolis and pieter (peter) to Florida. Cornelia married a Schauer, Elizabeth married a Van Walbeek, Nellie married a Faas, all of them were in kalamazoo. Jacob Van BOVEN was a linotype operator with the Chicago DAily News, he died the 2 april 1957. Jan van BOVEN was the editor and publisher of the "Teekenen Der Tijden " a weekly newspaper in Dutch and he was living at the 648 Elizabeth Street in Kalamazoo, MI he was a member of the second Christian reformed church and he was buried at the riverside cemetery

Re: VAN BOVEN emigration to the USA
I am the decendent of Cornelius Van Boven (died April 1972). He married Orena Eggbert (died December 1981) and the lived in Jasper, IN; Gary, IN; and finally in Logansport, IN. My father is John Gilbert Van Boven, PhD (died November 1997) and his sisters are Gerry Van Boven in Indianapolis, Cornelia Van Boven in Logansport, Betsy Van Boven in Logansport and Josine Van Boven in Arizona (i think). My father and mother moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1965 and we had a cousin that lived there also...Dr. John Van Boven, MD. (died either 1970's or 80's) We are related to the Faas family. I met Aunt Nell and even have a doll she made me and all my cousins back in the early 1970's. I also met Abe Faas and his wife Leid (sp?) in our home in Ft. Lauderdale back in the early 1980's. I would love any information anyone has about the past family members and would love to be in contact with any distant relatives. Thank you, Lisa Van Boven Dicus

My paternal grandfather, Daniel Faas, emigrated here in 1901 from Breskins, Zeeland. Married Mary Wissie from the same region. I don't believe we had anyone of our immediate family move to Kalamazoo. They, instead, settled in Wayne county, New York. My grandfather, however, was illegitimate and we are not sure if he was adopted by a Faas who married his mother, or he took on his biological father's name. Given this, plus the fact that the region and these villages are very small, the likelihood is that we are related. I've been there and there is a pretty small genetic pool.
