Hi I am responding to your recent message. Well let me tell you what I can. The name Farrugia used to a prominent maltese name adn I am not sure of it's significance now, I only now about the world war eras. Prominent meaning very popular. It was a common name in Malta as I am sure it is today. But your search may be difficult. Malta being such a small country, it is hard to find old records and family trees. Most likely, your family is scattered all over Australia and the United States. That where most Maltese immigrants went. Toronto, Canada is also very heavily populated by Maltese peoples. Your best bet to tracing your family is to look up immigration records in these countries, most can be done online. Look for next of kin on their records which most countries required, especially during the wars. You may run into a few problems especially with US records. There was a point in time when our major immigration port was closed, (Ellis Island) and records were not kept. Lokking in other countries other than Australia may help you find someone you are related to that you never even knew about. Those ships that were traveled by the maltese immigrants also kept records, so look those ships up and their passenger lists, those may be extremely helpful. It wouldn't hurt to look up the names in a maltese directory, but the name is so common and most maltese men had the sma e few firts names so you may find many men that fit your fathers name and birth place or date. i know of 12 men that have my grandfathers name and only two are related so it can be difficult. If you do get information and wanto know more about it such as where those names are most commonly found in Malta, let me know, maybe I can help. I hope this helps you, Sincerely, Jennifer

Thanks

My great grandparents came from malta some
time between 1920 and 1927. My Grandmother
can not recall when or where they shipped
from (ports...etc.). I would like to fins them on a ship
index. I know they both landed on Ellis Isl.
and shipped oner seperatly. They were married here...
in Detriot. Does anyone know anything about ports
gennerally used to ship migrants from Malta
to the US? \
ALSO... HOW do I go about researching them in Malta if I do find them.
E-mail me at pod97@prodigy.net

Thanks...
Valerie

Well, a lot of different ports were used seeing that amlta is a n island. But you best bet would be to get an actual year, and last name at the time of the voyage. Go to teh website, www.searchmalta.com You can put in the names and search for all the info you are looking for. You can also check the records at ellis island, soemtimes they show where the ship departed from but not always because teh time frame you are talking about was a busy time for ellis island due to the World Wars. Let me knwo if you need more help.

Mary Fenech Bianco genealogy

Surnames: Bianco
I'm trying to trace my family history. My mother was born
in Malta in 1945. Her mothers maiden name was Mary Bianco. My
great-grandparents name were Charlie and Michella (not sure if
thats spelt right) Bianco and my great-grandmothers maiden
name was Fenech. Charlie Bianco died around the start of
WW2 and Michella married his brother who was a widower. I believe
she was born around 1883. I think she died in the early 1950's.
They lived near or in Valletta.

Any help of info you could give would be appreciated. I have
two daughters and I want to give them the gift of their
proud heritage. Would appreciate it if you could email in case
I dont get back here!

regard and best wishes
Melony

Don't know if you can help me on this one Jennifer, but I have a Joseph McGuire, drowned in Valetta Harbour sometime between 1895 and 1905.
I have no idea if he was in the Army Services of Great Britain at that time, but he had been in the Cameron Highlanders.
Do you have any idea where in Malta he would have been buried.
I would appreciate any help - I would like to visit his grave and take photographs for the rest of the family.
Thanking you.
