I just made the connection from Holland to Codington county today through Edward De Vries or as his birth name Eelke de Vries. He was born September 28, 1888 to Andries Rintjes de Vries and Akke Eelkes Postma in Gaasterlan-Sleat, Friesland, Netherlands.
I found a passenger list with Eelke de Vries heading to Kranzburg, SD. Did a couple of hours of research locating Census Records and other records and found Edward De Vries in the area. I was guessing that they were the same person for about 2 hours and then found a SSDI record for Ed De Vries with the same exact birthday. Viola, they are the same person.
So the info I have on Edward:
9/28/1888 Born in Holland
3/25/1908 Arrived in the US
5/9/1910 Census Kranzburg
1911 Naturalization
10/24/1913 Married Mary Krier
1/7/1920 Census Kranzburg
4/23/1930 Census Kranzburg
1953-1954 SSN 504-36-9814 issued in SD.
June 1964 Died
I have the de Vries family charted back to 1811 through this line. This is where I join the de Vries family through the Lines/Lienesch surname. Our first common ancestor is Johann Bernard Lienesch, Baptised June 19, 1719. This line goes back to 1440 into Germany to Johann Von Dene Von Hamelen.
