My great-great grandfather, Giacomo Fontana, came thru NY in 1887. He was born in 1867 in Tyrol, Italy. He wrote to friends from his village and asked them to send a marriage-aged daughter to get married. Maria Yori was born March 27, 1876 in Tyrol, Italy. She came thru NY in 1899, and they married in Nevada County, CA, on November 11, 1899. Their marriage certificate states her name as Maria "Jozi" and then Maria "Josi", as well as that they were both born in Austria. Family history is that her name was Maria Yori, and that they were both from Tyrol, Italy, although "it was sometimes called Austria". It's in our records that her mother's name was Contenela, which we cannot find anywhere. We know he had a brother (no name) that set up a store in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and that she must have had at least one sibling, as we have a picture of them w/ their children and a "Yori nephew". We cannot find record of them past their entry into America, nor make a connection to any other family. If anyone has any info on any families that might be a connection to this, or how we could find birth/baptism records for the region that would show their parents names, we would truly appreciate any help!!!
