I am interested in what happened to my great great grandfather Giovanni Berenato from Gesso, province of Messina, Sicily. His wife Maria(Catalano ?)(1858-1930) arrived in Hammonton circa 1890 to Hammonton, New Jersey, with their children: Concetta Berenato(ca.1878-1937) wife of Giacomo Mangano, Caterina Berenato(ca.1881-1938)wife of Salvatore Macrie, and Domenico Berenato(ca. 1886-1959) husband of Caterina Tomasello.
Some doubt he arrived to Hammonton, some say he went to California and even south America.
In 1898, his wife re-married to Antonio Tomasello(1862-1937). I can only assume that Giovanni was born in the 1850s. It's possible his father was Domenico Berenato if his son was baptized thus. Concetta was the eldest child so perhaps his mother's name was Concetta....but I'm just speculating.
I'm related to others with the last name of Berenato in town here but I do not have the exact information.
