Guiseppe or Joseph Volante was born June 1 1899 in Sicily. that is all I know of his birth. Unfortunately alzheimers is rampant on both sides of the family and those who are still living the generation above my husband have no brain functions at all.

I cannot find a record of him coming over to the US but do know his birth record is correct because it was given to us by the funeral home.

He married Teresa Carollo on 17 Dec 1920 in new york city.
He died on 28 Jan 1944 in New Jersey.
They had one son Antonio Joseph. That is it. Teresa did have a child she brought over with her.

Teresa Carollo born 11 June 1890 Bagheria Sicily. Died 26 Feb 1941
Her arrival in the US was 9 Oct 1920 at the age of 30 on the Danta Alighieri
She was traveling with her six year old daughter Teresa diChristina or christino. But once the child arrived in the US her name became DeChristian.
The manifest states she is going to her brother Michalangelo in Newark NJ but cannot find him any where on any census.
Teresa di Christina states she is joining her grandfather Guiseppe Carollo at the same address as michalangelo but cannot find him either in NJ census.

Louise Cimelo may be Luigina born 1907 in US her mother is Marie Cimelo who arrived between 1901 1902 and her father may be Angelo.
Marie born 1880 Italy and Angelo born 1873 Italy is all I have on them so far. They lived and died in New Jersey USA She married Peter Pisauro and is my husbands grandmother.

Giuseppe Pisauro born about 1870 Italy 1910 Federal census says she arrived in uS 1890 In 1901 he went back to Italy and returned with his father Vito and sister mary. He lived and died in NJ.

Pasqualina Greco or Grecco married Giuseppe Pisauro she was born about 1882 Italy and arrived in the US 1901. I am wondering if she came over on same ship with Vito, Mary and Joseph when he went back to get them but cannot find a ship yet.

The only child I show born in Italy that ended up in the US is the child of Teresa Carollo who married Giuseppe Volante. It might be easier if they did not keep changing their first names. All the Giuseppe's are now Joseph in the US. Vito's because Victors and Antonios became Tony or Anthony.

NOW the one thing that is totally throwing me off. Antonio Anthony Joseph Volante. The son of Teresa Carollo and Guiseppe Volante is listed on the first census with the same last name as his sister Teresa di christian (here no longer christina or christino hard to read the record) but he is my husbands father and the surname is Volante. also he states that she is his half sister and he was born a year after the marriage. He also said his father had a brother I believe named Roberto and that there was a break in the family and they never spoke again.

Vito Pisauro father of Guiseppe all I have is he was born abt 1845 in Italy. He arrived around 1901 and lived in New Jersey but he is on the 1910 census living with is son Joseph and nothing after that. No death record or anything so not sure if he could of taken an american name and just cant find him.

from what my husband remembers of his family all the Volante /Carollo side came from Sicily. All the Pisauro side came from Italy
He has one uncle left that is not requiring full time nursing care and has most of his brain working who has wanted to know his history all his life and that is the reason I have dropped my family search to work on his because I dont know if any other families feel this way but this one feels its one thing to say your Italian but living in America all your life and not knowing where you came from or who your ancestors are makes them feel like a part of them is not working right. They dont feel whole and for some reason on the Volante side his father never wanted to talk about his family history. On the Pisauro side some talked about different relatives but no one can remember it now.

There is one story of a grape orchard owned by one of the families and my husband seems to think it is on his fathers side the Volantes and that years and years ago when he was young he remembers his father getting correspondence from sicily asking him to sign and release his families claim to the land there which he did. Other than that he does not have much of a family story to go with who he is or where he came from and his two sons and his siblings grandchildren also have a right to know this. And Since I am the one trying to find it for them I just dont know how to do it with them being out of the US.
So any fill in info anyone can give me to help me trace this family would be more than appreciated and you will be helping to write a family history that is just beginning. I do so thank you for trying to help us.
