There is a Iaia in my family history. Sebastiana Iaia (born August 6, 1873) was my paternal great-great grandmother. She was born in Sortino, a little Italian town in the province of Siracusa, region of Sicily. That is the birthplace of my grandparents, Carlo Piraneo and Rosa Blancato, who emigrated from Sortino to the U.S. in the last 1920s. Sebastiana's parents were Giuseppe Iaia and Antonina Mineo (I don't have birth dates for them.) I don't know of any Yugoslav connection, but your post was very interesting.
