My name is Valenti but in Sicily my flamily spells it Valente. My family came from the town of Riposto in the Province of Catania. It is a small town at the foot of Mt.Etna, on the east side of the island, very near the
Straits of Messina. The Valenti name has a coat of arms
registered in the international register printed in Germany, and dates back when Sioily and Naples were called
the one kingdom. My grandfather's name was Rosario Valenti (or Valente) and his wife was Ignacia--their marriage recors
should be in the archives of the church in Riposto. My grandmother was widowed early and her five or six boys were scasttered all over th world because they all left home to make their living on old sailing ships before the turn of the century. My dad was the youngest, Vincent, and only knew of hte location of one bvrother, Charles, located in Baltimore, and joined him at age 15 after sailing around the weorld a couple of times, starting at age 7 as c cabin boy. He live and died (God bless him) in Baltimotre--a gentleman and a good and loving father. For more info, contact me----

My grandpa is Sicilian, he is deceased--and I am trying to trace his roots. His mother and father were 1st generation Americans--his mother was Sebastiana Limeri, his father was Nicola Neri. His name was Veneranno Domenico Neri, his older and only brother's name was Vincenzo Neri. Since Sons are named after the father's father, that would make his grandfather also Vincenzo Neri. Do you have any insight to offer?
Regards, Lisa Musty (NC, USA)

Hi Lisa,

My name is Teresa Limeri. My friend, Brendan just subscribed to this service and I was looking thru it and your posting hit me...because my great-grandmother's name was Sebastiana Limeri. They lived in Siracusa, Sicily. In a small coastal town named Brucoli. I have some other info as well. Perhaps we can be in contact and try to figure this out. I have reseached the Limeri name for 7 generations about 8 years ago..before sites like this were available. I have much info that I have to dig out. If you would like to contact me, my email address is Gemstar15@aol.com

Dear Teresa-

My great grandmother Sebastiana was a twin, I believe, and married to Nicola Neri. Do you have any information to confirm that this is the same woman? I don't even know the town she was from, but I do know that she was a short woman. She and Nicola emmigrated to the US sometime before 1919. Do you have any more information? Feel free to email me directly.

Sincerely,

Lisa Musty

Venerando Domenico Neri is my great uncle. We called him "Uncle Lefty" because he wrote left-handed. He married and had 5 children.

His brother, Vincenzo Neri, was my great uncle Jimmy; he went by his middle name. He passed away 10 years before I was born.

Venerando's older sister, Josephine Neri Poltrone, is my grandmother.
