My father was born in Gibraltar in 1918, and had a godfather called Dolph - Adolpus Bacarese. He had a shop of some kind in Main Street. I wonder if there may be a connection with your relative?

Searching for Catherine Sanchez (1853 to 1942)and her family. I have details of her regarding wedding to John Chidwick in Gibraltar 1879. Attached details give birthday of Catherine and her father but can't get further back into her family history. Although married in Gibraltar, she may have lived at an earlier time in Spain. She met John Chidwick in Gibraltar when he was serving in the British Army.

From his Army records my Great Grandfather advised that he was born in Gibraltar in 1859. I don't know who his parents were or why they were in Gibraltar. Does anyone know how I can find out more information, I've tried searching on all platforms and have e-mailed Gibraltar records but have found and heard nothing. Any help will be helpful.

I am trying to trace back to my great grandmother Catherine Sanchez (Catalina Spanish equivalent I guess).
I have here birth as 1853, father Joseph (Jose?) Sanchez and she married John Chidwick in St Mary the Crowned Gilbraltar in 1879. I think shortly after marriage, John was posted back to England (was in the British Army).
I would like to know more details of her father, who her mother was and go back even further if possible?

that's very interesting information. I just don't have anything to verify if they are the same people or not.

The family say Mary was from Scotland and that her surname was Scott.

James (Jamie) was a blacksmith.

Can you give me the names of the Children? I will asked the family if they recognise the names. This could be very useful.

One of my uncles, Nat, met his wife while attending the same college. Her maiden name was Rose Mazo . She came from either North or South Carolina, I believe. Their son Robert is a very well known scientist at a university in the Pacific northwest. I have not been in touch with him for several years. Google him. Perhaps his mother was your relative. Let me know how it goes.

HI my grandfather came from Russia as well. He was one of 3 brothers all of whom came to the US for the same reasons. 2 settled in SC and the other i'm not sure. My grandparents had 10 kids.

My Father and his family came from Russia to America in the early 1900s. My Grandfather was Shmuel (Samuel) We had always heard stories that prior to going to Russia, the had lived in Spain but left due to the anti-semitic persecution. That turned out to not be such a good idea.
I had heard that there is a town in southern spain where there are many people with the name Mazo but cannot recall the town. He had 5 sons, Max, Jack, Ben (my father),Herman and Nat.

Darren still looking up the bits of information I have.
My mother now 89 is daughter of Alice Maud Holmes sister to Authur Frederick Holmes your grandfather.When Gibralter was Evacuated to London in the Second World War my mother and father used to visit your grandfather and Pilar in London and my mother said she was a very nice lady.
I attach a picture of your Great grand father James Hurbert Holmes taken in London 1947. Hope we will be able to put more bits of information together.
